Cheap capacitor tester spotted

That's the cheapest price I have ever seen for an in-circuit ESR meter. This would be a great piece of test equipment for you guys doing monitor and power supply repairs.

I can't find any tech info on this meter at all?

Could I assume that it comes with probes?

It seems cheap compared to other ESR's ??

From the little research i have done. This meter has been around since late 2007.

While the on off switch might fail on you and getting an accurate reading might be hard.

This meter is pretty good if you just want a go/no go tester (good/bad).

The major complaint seems to be the analog meter it self.

Some are talking about removing it and using a better meter in order for this to work better.

But for 28 bucks it cheap enough to add it to the box of tricks or to give as gift.

i gotta get one. been branching off into tv and other electronics repair where sometimes i have bad caps that look good... i suppose its about that time and it is cheap man.

UPS just dropped the box off about 20 minutes ago. As Ken stated it come with a case (more about this later), cables and a "manual".

First off the carrying case. It stinks. Literally. I don't know what kind of plastic is it made out of, but it is going in the garage for a few days to air out. The meter looks fine and the cables look like pretty standard Chinese multimeter cables. Banana jack on one end and a sharp pointy probe with a notch to help hold onto wires on the other.

The manual is quite amusing. It is all of one page in Big print. It reads like some of the documents we used to run through Babelfish a few times English->Italian->German->English is always amusing. I guess the big print is the equivalent of speaking very slowly and loudly in foreign countries to get them to understand you.

For example,
A. Description
1. It is a dial instrument, and has the stable function and high reliability. It is driven by the battery. The instrument makes use of the wide indicator plate (102x79mm), thus displays clearly.

My favorite so far in the "manual" is the Accessories list:
Operating Instuction (1 Page), Test Pencil (1 Set), Shockproof Jacketing (1PC), Leather Box (1 PC)

I'm sorry but that box was never anywhere near a cow, much less made of the skin of a cow! I can smell the plasticizers in it from here and it is on the other side of the room (at least 15 feet away from me).

Another snippet from the manual:
Usage
1. Insert the pencil into the jack, load the batteries, switch it on, then the indicator of the Meter is on.

If I get time later, I will give it a spin on some old caps.

Do a test with brand new caps and then some old caps of the same values out of circuit. Then do a few in-circuit tests.

Note if the tester makes any noises or beeps when testing caps
