Ok, so I just finished a game of NBA Jam on regular setting...what cheap AI this game has! I was up 14 points, yet the computer manages an unbelievable 16-2 run to pull ahead. What's worse is that their defense was unstoppable to with cheap steals and pushes. And for some reason, when they'd dunk my computer team mate would barely touch them as they are dunking and go flying! Also, when trying to shove opponent it kept making me hit my teammate. This cheap AI reminds me of MKII, which leads me to conclude that the programmers are pricks. Anyways, my poll for you guys is to name a game with obvious and blatant cheap AI. Go!

When I saw your subject NBA Jam came to mind - so I laughed when it was your example too.

I think there is a catch up feature in the dip switch settings which calms the AI down or increases your ability to score 3 pointers or something like that.... I haven't played with it really.

I also chuckled as many complain about the AI in JAM but honestly it's all about being that much more cheap and hammering them to the ground every chance you get.

Trust me I tried...turns out I "couldn't buy a bucket", and the computer went on to "deliver the facial" on me. I like difficult, just not cheap difficult

They did the same crap with MK3, at least some versions of it... you couldn't jump forward without getting countered, at least the way I played.

It's almost like they wanted the game to take your money. :D ;)

Yes, I was just thinking this today. I don't remember being as pissed back then at the game as I am now. Then, I would be more prone to pound the machine in frustration....now, I don't even think about that because I know the cost :(

I'm sure one of the Mortal Kombat guys can chime in, but in II I could always move around and jump and attack, you'd get countered sometimes, but in 3, every damn time you jump forward you get hit. I think it was one of the reasons they made "ultimate"...

i recommend trying harder or a different game, honestly you just have to be relentlessly cheap.

Yeah, all the Mark Turmell games had that "feature" where the computer starts cheating once you start winning by too much. In NBA Showtime, it's 6 points. If you're up by 6, they start hitting 40 footers and your 7' Dunks:20 guy can't dunk on a breakaway anymore...

There's a menu setting called CPU Assistance, which is supposed to keep games closer. But setting it to NO is like the Close Doors button on the elevator. It's there to make you feel better and actually has no functionality whatsoever.

The other most famous cheap AI is the big boss at the end of every level on the 90's side scrolling fighting/shooting games. You magically defeat it after a dollar or two of it being unkillable.

And I'll give an honorable mention to Tetris and Klax who miraculously send about 95 of the wrong pieces in a row and seem to have run out of straight/wildcard pieces when you really really need them...

Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road.

If you get to far ahead or win too many races in a row, Ivan can suddenly drive twice as fast and corner like an slot car. The best you can do is, not get too far ahead and cause him to rear end you to slow him down and give you a boost. Eventually he will beat though, and lap you for good measure. Cheap AI yes but I still love the game.
