I am in need a help with chdman. Ive been trying to figure this out since the new version of chdman was released (v5) without any success. Instead ive been using older versions of chdman that are version 4 but they only include chds up to version .140 of mame.

Anyway Ive followed killerinstinctprojects faq, disk part clean and still get unable to open file error.

Tried different pcs running windows 7, and xp. Same error. Different cf card readers and same error. Now if I run the older version 4 of the chd, no problems at all.

I know I am forgetting something here but I cant figure it out.

I have several questions.
1) how do you tell if you have version 4 or 5 of chdman? best I can tell, chdman revision # is tied to Mame version.
2) I don't see any successful extractions. Do you have an example of of the "version 4" working.

Lastly, I have seen issues with different versions of chdman. I am using but .195 and .151 successfully. I don't think it should matter what version was used to create the actual CHD image.

I had an issue where it refused to see the flash card. Could see it fine in windows, but chdman had no idea it existed. Sadly, I never figured that one out, as it failed on multiple computers with multiple readers. Just figured you might want to know you're not alone.

What are you using for hardware to write to the CF?

The ONLY a thing I could use to get a successful image to CF was (are you ready for this?)...

USB to IDE adapter > IDE to CF adapter. That's it. I tried all sorts of UBS CF readers and none worked. I don't know if it's how the IDE comes up as a disk, but that's the only thing that worked for me.

And...I also did it on a Boot Camp partition on a Mac. That had like no business working.

Update.

I have been able to successfully get chdman to work on any other PC running xp. Using the identical steps I still get the same error on Windows 7. What could be causing the issue on win7?
