I picked up a rolling thunder, and for the most part, it works great. However I noticed when I had it open that when the game is turned on or off, there are visible electrical shocks where the monitor board touches the chassis frame. The game and monitor are working perfect right now. There is currently no earth ground in the cab, and it seems the old operator cut the ground plug on the ac cord. is this just a lack of ground issue? I figured if I ran some earth ground from the line filter to the chassis frame and put a new ground plug on it might fix it, but what seems to be happening is that the monitor is discharging when it is powered off. It's a K7000. Thoughts?

Sounds like the dag wire isn't properly connected to the neckboard/chassis...

there is a black wire from the neckboard that currently goes nowhere. It's looped with another wire that is grounded to the chassis. should it be connected to something? It's got a molex pin on the end of it.

Let's see a pic. Usually there is a black wire from the spring across the back of the tube to the ground corner of the neckboard, but sometimes it is connected to a screw on top of the left wall. Since the black wire is soldered to the neckboard, most people cut it and reattach it when they remove the chassis for repair. I've seen some people put a molex connector inline so they can unplug it when removing the chassis, then reconnect it when they put it back in....

You were spot on. I found the the other half of the wire tucked up under the monitor frame, spliced them together and no more sparking. I'm glad that's all that went wrong with this cab. Some jackass didn't screw the chassis and it was hanging out by the wires when I unloaded it from the truck. Man these things are resilient sometimes.

You got lucky. Back before I knew this was necessary on the K7000, I had enough sparks that I blew a bunch of parts on the chassis...
