Chart to help choose the right Neo Geo Multi Cart

Thanks blkdog7,

So when you say:
"Doesn't work well in a 4 slot. Can't switch to other carts without modding"

That it does work in the 4 slot right? And if you want to switch you need to add that wire for the select button?? Or by not well you mean that it glitches?

What is concering me is that the 4 slots are all non-JAMMA, even the 2 and 6 slot. Only the more recent 1 slots are JAMMA. So this cart will plug into both?!?!

I don't care so much about load time, I just want it to work. And it would be nice to have Last Blade 1 which is only in the 138.

The 138 in 1 works fine in the 4 slot. It works with the 4 slot harness. I have an original factory dedicated NEO 4 slot. No problems except you can't switch to the other carts without modding the inline harness. I had to leave all the other slots empty to get it to work!

Found a few mistakes.

I found a few mistakes in the list where I collapsed all the game variants. When I was renaming the games to the same name, for example Neo Bomber Man is in the 120 and 138. I will fix the list later today hopefully. I think it is limited to Bomber Man and maybe Metal Slug 6.

That is good news! So if I mod it I don't have to leave the other slots empty? Also my first slot is a little wonky and the system works better if I don't put a game in it. Does it need to be in the first slot?

I tried cleaning the slot, but it is a real pain, so it mostly consisted of canned air and inserting the cart 20 times. Anyone have a method to clean the slots on a MVS?

I couldn't get the cart to work right in my first slot, I ended up using the second slot on mine!

I don't know how or if the mod works. I never tried it. I sold mine before I modded it. I am sporting the 120 in 1 now and am VERY happy with it.

Metal Slug X is an updated version of Metal Slug 2...
Anyone know the difference between "Bomberman" and "Neo Bomberman"??

Great list BTW!

It is the same game. They just left off the Neo in the one list. That is why I combiled them in the newer list further down the page on my site. Of course when I did the replace I made a mistake, so I will be updating that list later this evening.

there are flat plastic sticks with lint-free soft tips available which are great for cleaning carts and slots when dipped in some isopropyl alcohol. i used to use 'em to clean home console games, especially my original NES and SNES systems.

and of course, now that i go searching the net for the sticks i can't find 'em. i'm pretty sure i got them from ERI (this place http://www.eresourcing.com/) many years ago.

New list - Much better

Hi Everyone,

I took the list of offical Neo Geo MVS games on wikipedia and used it for the a better comparison. I am not sure if the list is accurate, but it was super helpful in weeding out the ROM hacks.

The new list is sorted 2 ways.

  1. Sorted by rarity. The more multi carts the game is in the higher it is on the list.
  2. Sorted by game title.

This updated list really gives you a much better idea of how many games you get in each multi cart. For example here are the real game totals in each cart:

  • 18-in-1 = 11 real games
  • 32-in-1 = 24 real games
  • 45-in-1 = 31 real games
  • 48-in-1 = 34 real games
  • 100-in-1 = 67 real games
  • 108-in-1 = 67 real games
  • 111-in-1 = 67 real games
  • 120-in-1 = 77 real games
  • 138-in-1 = 97 real games

I also have each game title linked to the Wikipedia article for that game. It should be helpful for those who do not know every title for the MVS.

Anyway, check out the updated lists, they are at the bottom of my blog post, and let me know if I have something wrong.

List is awesome! Thanks!

Can one game be chosen that loads and plays like a "real" game from the moment you turn it on without having to go to the menus?

I Decided!

The lists are great, thanks for taking the time to do them!

Thanks Cliffo! I decided that since I have a 4 slot that I am going to get the 120. The difference is mostly sports games, although I do wish it had Cyber Lip. Oh well I will have to be happy with Metal Slugs! Hopefully Nixs will get them in soon!

I got it!

So I got the last 120-in-1 from Nixs on Saturday and it is great! At first I thought it wasn't working with multiple carts, but I just had to change the system settings to allow game switch at anytime.

I need to get my first slot working again, any cart in the first will have messed up graphics. I cleaned the slot with deoxit, and it didn't make any difference. I guess will have to check for bad solders, which requires pulling the whole thing apart (not fun).

Anyway here is a video of me trying the cart out the first time. I will make a better one later.

Did you try your 138 out yet?

I have heard that there are complaints on the menu system for the 138, load times ect.... but I don't have it yet to be able to say. For me the positives should outweigh the neg. on this (I hope). :D

How long does the menu take?

mvs

No I didn't have a bent pin. The top and bottom PCBs would separate just a bit when a cartridge was installed and that would cause odd screen display.
