Hi Everyone,

I am going to be buying a Neo Geo Multi Cart soon, most likely from Nick (Nix), but I was having a problem figuring out which cart I wanted, so I put together this visual game comparison chart that makes it a lot easier. I am not sure what is different about the plus (+) variants, but I left them as distinct games in this list. I think I will collapse them in a future version. Please let me know if you think this is useful.

Anyone have one of these Multi Carts?

I really would like to know more about what the + variants of the games are like. Just minor changes?

I have the 100-1 and it works great. I'm not too familiar with the new 138-1 but I think I read somewhere that it's best to use these on the 1 slots. I believe it has something to do with that jamma interface attachment.

The + variants are hacks. They're the original game plus added content. I think one of the Metal Slugs that is + has some sort of thundercloud following you. I like to play the games how they were designed to be played and don't really care about playing hacks.

handy list; wish i'd had it when i'd gone looking at carts (ended up with a 138-in-1.) thanks for going through the trouble!

Jamma?!?!

OK I have a 4 slot, and obviously it is not JAMMA. Nick (Nix) said it would wor k fine with a 4-slot, but there was a jumper wire that needs to be connected to make the other slots selectable. Anyone know anything about that?

I will post a version with out the game variants tonight if I get the chance. I think it would be more helpful.

I would like too see more information about this. I've thought about it and whats the point of having a 4 slot cab if all the games are in 1 slot?

There is people saying this works without a problem on the 2 and 4 and 6 slots. Theres people saying otherwise.

I have heard these are not complete games on these or they are changed some how?

I was looking at a one slot neo and decided I'd rather have a four slot. But are you guys saying that I can get a one slot and use a cart with multiple games on it with no modifications !!!???

my 138-in-1 came from Nix.

i thought it was the best price-to-games ratio, even if a few games i'm interested it are on other carts and not it.

Here is the chart:
http://j.mp/mvs_multicartsPersonally, I don't recommend multicarts - they tend to be glitchy and break, not to mention that they're bootlegs. However, if you're going to get one, just get whatever has the most distinct games that you actually want to play but don't want to buy, that you're willing to spend the money for. IMHO, that means buy the 138 cart.

Okay, here's the 60-second rundown of Neo Geo hacks.

Games (Excluding Strikers 1945 Plus) with a subtitle such as "Plus, Super Plus, Magic Plus II" are what are referred to as "hacks." They are, in pure form, bootlegs of the original game with a minor modification. As a general rule, this means bosses unlocked for play in fighting games. For a more specific example, SVC Chaos Plus (set one) has 4 of 6 special characters per side unlocked. SVC Chaos Plus (set two) has all 6 extra characters per side playable.
Other hacks that don't include Plus/Magic/Super at the end of the title are:
King of Gladiator - mashup of King of Fighters 97 with bits of other KOF games, and includes some frames of nudity for some female characters.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2003 - Hack of King of Fighters 2001 with recolored characters, and some special moves now set the opponent on fire or electify him, etc.
Lansquenet 2004 - Shock Troopers 2nd Squad with some slowdown eliminated, and levels in a different order.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Collin! That is very useful!

New Cart

I added another chart to the page that collapses the roms hacks into the main game. I think it makes it much easier to see what you get in each cart.

I would like to get the 138, but I need to know if that one works on the non-JAMMA 4 slot system. Nick (Nix) seems to think so. Anyone using it in a multislot MVS?

the additional plug-in card on the 138-in-1 goes in between the JAMMA harness and the Neo Geo board and runs the menu system. you have to have it connected or else all you get is one of the KOF games.

my understanding is that if you install it (or possibly one of the other multi-carts without the extra plug-in board,) in a multi-slot Neo Geo system it will disable the rest of the slots unless you do some sort of mod, but otherwise it will work right out of the box.

most of issues i have read involving the multi-carts themselves not functioning at all have to do with some of the single-slot boards and some bios difference that keeps them from working.

I'm no expert, but here is my opinion.
I've owned the 111-in-1 cart and have been happy with game performance.
I use a 1 slot MV-1C with no issues, had problems with a MV-1FZ resetting.

The 111-in-1 uses a menu list which I pictured below, there is no preview, no way to turn games off. I'm not a fan of fighting games, so I have to scroll through all these games regardless. I have young kids who cannot yet read, so the preview is a big missing factor for me as well. I just sold my 111-in-1 cart for $95 shipped on Ebay and ordered a 138-in-1 from Nick on this board.

I have heard that there are complaints on the menu system for the 138, load times ect.... but I don't have it yet to be able to say. For me the positives should outweigh the neg. on this (I hope). :D

A MV-1 is the only single slot that offers stereo sound, so unless you have that old monster, you have to have a multislot to have stereo sound. The MOD that is pictured below can be better exlained on the original thread here:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2879160

Looks like the jumper wire enables the select button for the multi-slot boards.

I had the 138 in 1 cart. It is a good cart but it has some minor set backs.

Pluses:

1 - On screen menu can be accessed without having to reboot machine to the NEO GEO splash logo. It is always running in background it seems.
2 - Best game selection of any multicart. League Bowling!
3 - Gameplay is great

Minuses:

1 - Takes about 30 seconds to load games
2 - Doesn't work well in a 4 slot. Can't switch to other carts without modding
3 - Uses an inline JAMMA harness for the menu system
4 - After you select a game, it loads. Often, while you are still in the menu, you will hear the game you selected running but you still see the menu. By the time the menu disappears your game has already started and you might have missed something in the game

So, because I didn't want to mod the 138 in 1 I bought the 120 in 1 cart. BTW - I bought both of my carts from NIX. Great seller!

The 120 in 1 cart works PERFECT in my 4 slot, I can switch between carts! The only downfall is that when you want to change games from the menu, it reboots your NEO GEO to get back to the menu or to get to the selected game unlike the 138 in 1 that has a menu running in the background.

Thanks blkdog7,

So when you say:
"Doesn't work well in a 4 slot. Can't switch to other carts without modding"

That it does work in the 4 slot right? And if you want to switch you need to add that wire for the select button?? Or by not well you mean that it glitches?

What is concering me is that the 4 slots are all non-JAMMA, even the 2 and 6 slot. Only the more recent 1 slots are JAMMA. So this cart will plug into both?!?!

I don't care so much about load time, I just want it to work. And it would be nice to have Last Blade 1 which is only in the 138.
