so something as stupid and little as changing the joystick is pissing me off.

I picked up a couple of the eurosticks to put in, and the shaft is a bit fatter than the original stick that was in there.

well apparently the little plastic joystick (dust) disc is stationed either under the cpo on inside the wood of the control panel.

this little piece of shit needs to come out for me to put a new stick in.

before I tear up the cpo. does anyone know if it is actually directly below the cpo or what?

Got a picture?

I don't recall seeing this problem before. :)

I am used to the discs that go on the top side of the CP to cover the pinch point/keep trash out of the joystick assembly.

Why remove it? You don't have to. Happ competition sticks are like 8 bucks, why not just pick up a couple, orrrrcut the disc a little wider.

On my MK4 the Discs were in between the wood and the CPO. I left them in and put the new dust disc that came with my joysticks above the CPO as well. Double dust disc protected now :)

I could have got those sticks but I chose to go with these because I hear they are better.

why change it? because it has 12 years of dust on it, and it looks like shit. yeah obviously I can drill the hole bigger in the plastic ring. I may be going with the double dust ring as well.

well, allow me to explain a few things. yes, the ring is mounted below the metal part of the control panel. a circular pattern is routed out in the wooden part for the disc to rotate around.

these games shipped with whatever the equivalent to the Happ Ultimate joystick was, which uses a narrower shaft than the Happ Competition joystick or whatever you intend on throwing in there.

removal of the metal overlay requires a security torx bit to remove the plexiglass, and unbolting the bolts that mount the CP to the hinge and hold the metal CPO on.

then you'll be able to get at the disc. don't double disc it, that's stupid. just take your new dust disc and put it where you took the old ones out.

take caution when re-bolting it back together, the discs tend to fall out. :)

thanks.
I already removed the torx screws ( I will be replacing them with regular screws or something else) I will finish up tonite, thanks.

Reason I double dust disced it was I didn't feel like removing and replacing the existing one I was able to clean it with a vacuum and some dust off quite well.

But also in addition to dust it prevent pinching.

now before I ruin my cpo, do I need to remove the cpo to get to these fucking dust disks?

it sure looks like I do.

Yes. The CPO will be adhered to a large metal plate. You will not damage your CPO. However, the metal plate does have several studs that go through the wood and have nuts on them. So, in order to get to those discs, you'll need to remove all the buttons, the plexi screws and all the nuts from the back of the control panel to release the metal plate. If I recall, the hinge nuts and even the nuts that hold the control panel latch hardware are through the panel to the metal plate. You pretty much have to disassemble the whole thing.

would anyone consider leaving the plexi off of the control panel? I mean it's for home use.

I wouldn't, but I have kids. I think the t-molding on the front will also have a lip as the control panel thickness would be less without the plexi. Currently your t-molding should wrap the side or your plexi.

ok well, I got that bitch completely pulled apart. Dismantled and cleaned every button (16 years of caked shit on them) I got 4 hours into this CP, lol

It's awesome now. Great way to spend the day at work today I have to say. Would have been 2 or 3 nights of work at home (1 hour/night free time)

thanks for the input guys, it helped.
