I'm having trouble calibrating the foot pedal potentiometers. They always test bad after i follow the manual.

1. Press and hold down the blue car button. Press the red
car button once.
2. While holding down the blue button, cycle each foot
pedal to its extreme up and down positions. Check the
display screen; each foot pedal range should read OK.
Then release the blue car button. Press the red start
button.
NOTE
After completing the calibration procedure, you
must press the red start button to save the cali-
bration. Pressing the button also advances the
screen at this point.
5. If the pedal problem persists, check the physical align-
ment of each foot pedal potentiometer

I just replaced the pots with new 5k pots and the diagnostic screen still shows them as bad. In game play, the throttle seems to work just fine. But in the upgrade page both pedals immediately select the upgrade before you can turn the wheel. Which makes the game not so fun.

I think this behavior is pretty strange, i don't understand why the option is auto-selected like a foot press yet the cars don't take off at full speed automatically during game play.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm out...

thanks!

Maybe the spring doesn't return the pedal to it's fully 'up' position?

Perhaps you could take them off and physically rotate the body a small amount so that it sends a different range of readings to the board.

Connector P102, pins 5 and 7 send the pot signal to the CPU board. You could scope them out there and see how hi/lo they go during play.

These go through resistors R16 and R18 on the way to an ADC chip pins 26 and 27 at location 1S. If your signals look good there, your board may have an issue.

My Paperboy steering had a horrible response, but I took the pot off, twisted it back and forth a lot and then mounting it in a slightly shifted position. The signal looks a whole lot better now.

That said, the pot on the Paperboy handlebars rotates through a pretty small angle, not using much of the range of the pot. I haven't looked at any Champ Sprint foot pedals recently, but I have a pair.

Pro Tip: Make sure your start buttons are wired correctly. Mine were wired in the closed position. That caused all my issues. Calibration reads OK now.
