Can anyone tell me which chips on a Championship Sprint/Paperboy are responsible for the sound? The pokey's are fine (in test mode), but I have no music, or sound effects in CS. The speakers are fine as they are buzzing. I'm wondering if this is a board issue, so I figured I would check the chips that run the sound.

Anyone know?

I actually dont get any errors in self test with the audio.

Bump, anyone know which chips on the main PCB are responsible for sound?

On the game PCB, the main chips responsible for generating sound are the 6502 processor, a Yamaha YM2151 synthesizer chip, and 2 pokeys. (The board has two processors--a DEC to handle the big stuff, while the 6502 handles sound/coins.) Paperboy uses a TMS5220 (Texas Instruments) chip for speech, but CS doesn't have speech. I'm sure there are other chips in the sound chain, but I don't have my schematics handy.

So you're not getting any sound whatsoever but the sound tests check out ok on screen? The 6502 checks out fine? If that's the case, I would guess a problem with the A/R III (if you have one in there) or maybe a loose connection somewhere.

Yeah, in test mode, the Yamaha Processor nets no sounds (but no errors), and the pokeys test out fine (you can hear those).

I had the same issue with my Paperboy. The L pokey was shot, but showed no errors during self test (weird), but once the chip was replaced you could hear the sounds again in test mode.

Ive PM'd someone about the Yamaha chip, and I think I may be getting one, so I will swap that out first to see if that was it. If not, I will look further. Im hoping its an easy fix.
