I just got a champion pub pin, I am having a hard time seeing why it has such bad reviews?
I think its great and everyone thats played it loves it. Am I missing something?
I figured with a production of only 1350 and one of the last pins made by Bally it would be more popular like cactus canyon. I had a cactus canyon and liked it but just thought of it as OK not great. I cant see how a CC can be 10K and a champ pub 3K???
Anyway I feel the value on the CP will be going up in the future just based on the low production numbers alone. Im keeping it, just sold my CC.

I want one. Thankfully it isn't pulling in ridiculous prices like Cactus Canyon yet, so there's still a chance to find one and not have to take out a second mortgage to afford it.

I've never played one but everything I've seen suggests I'd really like it.

CP

well ive had my CP for a few weeks now and this is what im seeing,
lots of different modes of game play
lots of video on the dmd, games ect
2 mini play fields that are challenging
I can play it for a very long time on 5 balls and I like that
after you beat 5 guys you can start betting points on your own fights
lots of multiball modes
cool skill shot
neat lighting with full LEDs
very cool music and sounds with differnt voices for the boxers
the game keeps stats on each boxer and the ranks are always changing

Its just a cool under rated pin if you ask me and for a good value
my machine is great condition, only issue I had was the boxers right arm was not working. I found a broken coil wire now its tip top. The boxer assy, is very easy to take out and work on.

Here's what I've learned when it comes to game hype and value. 2 factors contribute:

-Tournament players. There are certain types of games with certain types of rules and scoring that lend themselves toward tournament play. I don't know the ins-and-outs of Champ Pub, but I've heard different things about unbalanced scoring and such. I think there are lots of DMD prizes that give you points, right? Tournament guys hate any "points giveaways" ...they want all points to come from skill. These guys actually have quite an influence on collector trends.

-Neutral demographic themes. Aliens, medieval castles, and singing monsters are things pretty much everyone can enjoy....families, men, women, kids, dogs, cats ,etc. Something like Champ Pub is a bit more specific. Not everyone likes boxing. Parents might not want a "Bar" or "Violence" themed game around their kids.

Personally, I think it's a really fun game...it's the pinball version of "Punch-Out". I love the jump rope, the music and characters are funny. I don't care about the stuff Tournament guys care about - I'm looking at the story, music, fun, toys, etc. I've never owned one, so perhaps I would find something I didn't like about it if I had a few hundred plays on it....but, it's a game I've enjoyed playing and wouldn't mind owning it someday.

i've only played championship pub virtually, but i really like it on the PC. typically, if i enjoy a pin virtually, i'll enjoy it later when i get to play the real thing.

if one came up near me that was within my spending range at the time, i'd jump on it.

I have never seen the appeal of CC. It was the last DMD WPC game, but the crazy prices are not because of it being an awesome game or anything. CP is a really fun game with interesting toys. Now I want one of them as well - Thanks! <grin>

(I used to play a CP on location until it was removed. I always enjoyed it)

I like the badguy drop targets...the Bart head w/ the "flying" hat...the train is cool...the ball locks by the flippers are neat...it looks nice. Like most WPC'95 series games, what's not to like? I wouldn't pay $10k for one or anything...but if it was a 2k or 3k game I'd probably get one. :)

cactus canyon....another pin i've only played virtually, but i thought it was fantastic. i agree with rare, i'd love to have one...i just wouldn't pay the asking price for one.

for whatever reason, it's "cool" to hate on cactus canyon and medieval madness within the pin community. whatever. they're both overpriced, to be sure, but that doesn't make them any less fun.

CP

ok then im glad most of you are agreeing with me, I really like it and I have no interest in the tournement play part of the world if thats where the negative opinion is coming from.

Yeah, sometimes you just want to play a game for adrenaline, depth and challenge...sometimes you just want to enjoy the world under the glass. CP is one of those games. That's how I feel about my Road Show. It's the game I play when I just want to enjoy some funny characters and cool features without any stress.

Oh man Champ pub is one of my favorites. They are definitely getting pricier as there are lots of sweet modes and a really deep game.

cactus canyon is fun as well. The price doesn't make it less fun, just less desirable for me
