Now that I am attempting to learn how to repair my own machines, I figure I am going to need a supply of fuses and such as I have blown a few already.... ;)

Are ceramic fuses ok to use? It seems like they can be a bit cheaper when buying several.

They should work fine but why use them over glass? At least with glass, you can see that they are blown. Ceramics are usually for specialty devices like Microwave Ovens.

Just a price consideration. However those are probably from china and I want to avoid that. I have a fuse checker so seeing them isn't that big of a deal. Just thought I would ask.

Soemtimes you can see that a glass fuse is blown but you should always use a meter to verify. Fuses can blow outside of the visible area or they can overheat creating a high resistance fillament.

Usually Ceramics cost more. I needed some 15amp ones recently and they were about $1.00 each at RatShack. If you already have them, there's no difference. And I agree, you need to meter fuses to determine whether they are good or not but a blown glass fuse is a lot easier to determine if it IS visibly blown.

If you're throwing fuses while trying to do a repair, you might consider something like this. So you don't have to burn a fuse every time but rather just the couple of times you mistakenly think you are have it fixed... :)

Yanno, I was talking with my brother this morning and jokingly said I should install circuit breakers ;)

I will have to look into that.
