Centuri Vanguard - Your thoughts?

I got one in a trade, played it a bit, didn't like it (and I like Scramble), stole the monitor for my Gyruss, then gave it to a KLOV buddy who still has it...

...And I got to play this same machine. If you are a fan of shooters and history you'll like it. SNK went all out; I was very surprised to hear speech from such an early shooter. The gameplay is pretty good as it also scrolls up instead of being a purely left-right shooter. The artwork is also nice as it's a dedicated game instead of a kit. If you have the room, it's a good game.

I never would have thought about Scramble while playing Vanguard.

Vanguard is for multitaskers. Shooting in four directions, and actually hitting targets takes some concentration. Then those dang snakes always get me.

It's not one of my favorites (and I like shooters), but if you've got the room, there's probably not much regret in spending $150 for it.

Nice! I always thought it would be cool to make a Centuri Multigame using a Vanguard. It has enough buttons for most of the cool Centuri games- Time Pilot, Circus Charlie, Gyruss, Phoenix, Eagle, Swimmer, etc...
