Hey,

I've been doing a Track and Field cocktail scratch build. One detail I'd like to have is the raised Centuri badge that's attached to the coin door. Because I bought a new coin door, I don't have said badge.

I thought maybe I'd try my hand at making a reproduction because I don't see anyone selling these. My current plan is to make a model and make use of the 3d printer we have at work to see how close I can get with that and some paint.

So far, I've taken some images other people have posted and I traced over the images with nodes and lines to make a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) version. It was a huge PITA, but it looks nice so far (I still have to add the registered trademark R).

Next, I'm going to import the image into TinkerCAD or some other suitable program and make it three-dimensional.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen one of these in person, so I'm not sure how much the letters need to be raised up. If someone would be willing to share that information with me, that'd be great.

While I'm designing this to fit my coin door, if you could post some other measurements, like just take a picture with a ruler or something, I will also try to make a true-to-original CAD drawing too.

Hey there,

Here's the letters measured. Your pic is amazingly close. I traced it using a rubbing with pencil as it seemed the simplest route. All measurements in mm

A) 146mm
B) 20mm
C) 25mm
D) 8mm
E) 24mm
F) 8mm
G) 4mm
H) 95mm
I) 8mm
J) 35mm

If you need others or feel i messed anything up, yell!

Excellent, this is super helpful. Now I have a bunch of work to do though! hehe

Thanks!

I might be able to guesstimate it just by comparing images to the other measurements you provided.

I am referencing mine and it appears to be a 1mm raised platform (its got a beveled edge) and then the logo is another 1mm raise (height) from the platform surface. What it looks like you are missing is the platform dimensions. And then the overall dimension.thickness of the full faceplate itself. If you were put a 1.5 mm perimeter around the logo and bevel it, you'd pretty much have the (footprint) dimension of the platform.

I have a separate drawing where I've roughed in the platform dimensions. Because my coin door isn't an authentic Centuri I was hoping to end up with two CAD drawings: one that fits my more generic coin door and a second that is hopefully true to the original.

Spent some time on the scaling tonight. The measurements were very helpful. Here's an animated gif showing the tracing overlaid onto the image I traced...the spacing is better and now I know it's to scale. I need to trace in the edges of the raised portions and then convert it to a CAD drawing. I'll post again when I have something significant.

I'm getting close to having something ready for the 3d printer.

I have one more question. What are the dimensions of the entire inset area that the logo fits into on an actual coin door? I measured out my unauthentic coin door, and it looks to be 150mm x 45mm. With my scaled drawing and internet contributed image, it looks like the real one is about 175mm x 65mm. I just want to make sure I'm getting it right.

Thanks in advance, and here's another teaser image to keep you salivating.

THAT is F*cking Impressive Modeling :D

would be kool as hell to have those made in Aluminium as a Keychain to buy :D

Love it !

Daniel.

Haha, I like the keychain idea.

Centuri is long defunct so I'm not too worried about getting sued, but I don't want to reproduce much of anything because I'm sure someone bought up the rights to the name.

Anyway, this is why I'm planning on just making everything public when I'm done, do whatever you want with the drawings.

Also, I'm no CAD expert, I'm just trying to figure out as a go along. Partially why this is taking me so long. I want to get it done, but I hate working on it all at the same time :)

CAD Drawing Done?

Hi,

Sorry it's been so long since the last update. Winter really slowed down all my work and drained my motivation to do much of anything. I've been trying to get back into this and I think I have a completed CAD drawing of the Centuri logo.

There's a maker-type store in one of our local malls, and my next step is to see if I can get them to 3d print it for me so I can see what it looks like and how the scaling really is. I'm going to try and get that done this week and I'll post a picture of what the printed version looks like as soon as I can get my hands on it.

3d Rendering Done

Well, it took me a lot longer than a week.

I took my files into the maker store at our mall. I exported to every file (I thought) I could and none were the right one. Then it turned out there were some issues with my rendering that I had to fix. Finally, I got all that done, and the guy never replied to my emails. I ended up shopping it out to a guy in AZ. $15 with shipping. Not bad really, and I got it today.

Here are the pictures. I'm really happy with how well it came out for the first attempt. It's just a little too big to fit into my coin door, and the (R) registered trademark didn't print at all for some reason.

Assuming it doesn't cost a fortune, I'll get one milled out of aluminum once I get it tweaked out.

Bump .. Is it done? Any chance you could share the CAD files?
