So, I'm running a millipede board with a multipede option and the trackball works up and down, but not well, and will not move laterally beyond a few inches. You would think something's
wrong with the trackball, right? I run a second millipede board and it is fine- works perfectly. Plays great, not a single problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Which multipede kit? The original braze version? Or does High Score Saves or someone else have a different one now that you're running? I have been running the braze kit in mine for 20 years with zero track ball issues and I've still got the originals installed.

Move the kit to the other PCB and see if you get the same results. If you don't then you have a PCB issue.

Not in this case.

John, the issue is most likely a weak opto on the trackball. When these optos get old and weak, you can see them work with one board but not another. I'd try swapping out the suspect opto with a new one. (It never hurts to have a good spare on hand anyway.) Mikes Arcade sells replacements:

So your advice is to start swapping parts before testing?

Thank you to everyone for their responses. I will start digging into this.
