Centipede stradegy.... help.

well, just got mine, and i can´t get any fearther than 30+k to 40+k...
i there some kind of stradegy, or is it plain skillz

Yeah, don't die! :D

Keep the bottom 1/4 of the screen clear of mushrooms. This will cause the bug (not sure what kid of bug that is!) to keep falling through from the top leaving mushrooms. The more the top 3/4 of the screen that fills up, the less paths the Centipede has to travel and the easier it will be to kill it.

The spider only travels in one direction, so if you can get past him, then you'll be safe from him.

I am around 70K, I just concentrate on the spiders, and keep the lower quarter of the screen clear of mushrooms. Shoot the spiders as close to you as possible, 900 points adds up quick.

Also try to get as many points on the beginning leves as you can, dont kill the pede' off till it is at the bottom of the screen.

There is an advanced strategy I have seen done. Basically you want the screen to fill with mushrooms, then just shoot one path through the middle. The pede will always come straight down this path, where you can pick him off quickly. Easier said than done.

I have also tried this: Don't kill the pede. Just keep dodging him at the bottom of the screen and pick off spiders and such. I can probably do 30-40K this way. You have to clear those mushrooms out at the bottom.

Another strategy is to set up a trap on the side of the screen with mushrooms. The spider jumps out 3 spaces from the end. If you set up mushrooms 2 spaces from the edge the spider can't destroy them. Then with the correct spacing of mushrooms the caterpillars get caught on the side, out of the way. The only thing you need to do is shoot spiders. One last thing, the one thing that can mess things up is a spider coming from the other side of your trap. You will need to kill it before it gets to the other side. Good Luck!

We just got our Centipede a couple weeks ago and I'm up to 200k. I like to start making a "channel" right up the middle of the board starting on level 1. It makes it a lot easier to kill the majority of the centipede(until it comes down all in pieces).

My wife gets mad at me because I can usually get out of jams on the bottom of the screen. The best thing to do for practice is letting the centipede all the way down and then struggle to get by the board. After a while you'll get pretty good at avoidance which is key imho.

Basically it's just practice, practice, practice. :D

I'm ok at the game but the advice I have gotten from experts back in the day was to always kill the fleas unless it is inconvenient to do so. Usually the centipede will be in the line of fire where a flea is at the low part of the screen. Have a few mushrooms around so you can fire faster at the centipede below them. The centipede trapping trick is pretty cool but kind of boring. You also want to create a channel like another person said. I think there is a certain place to do it that is right where the centipede comes down like the 10000 place in the score.
Not entirely sure which part of the score is best to get a channel going to though but with some playing you can figure it out.

Keep the bottom cleared out as best as possible. Always try to shoot the front of the centipede - if you hit anywhere else, the centipede will split and cause you more issues.

As your score gets higher, don't mess with the spiders. Whichever side the spiders enter from they will only move in the other direction. In other words, if the spider enters from the right, it can only move to the left or up or down, never back to the right. Duck under the spider and stay on the side that the spider entered from, then concentrate on shooting the centipede.

As the screen fills up with mushrooms, try and shoot a single clear channel. If you do this, the centipede will come down the same channel and you can shoot them more easily.

the flea that leaves the mushrooms can be a pain in the ass. the trick is, as long as you leave 5 mushrooms in the bottom 1/3 (the portion you can move in), the flea will not drop any more till the mushrooms get taken by the spider or shot.

Thanks guys, reading this post made me set the keyboard down and go fire off my classic lineup. After almost an hour of playing Centipede I have retaken my high score!!! 53k, not great but its #1 in my world!

Yeah good point, that's why it's best to keep it clear, more fleas. :D I don't know why but it really seems like the fleas come down at perfect points where the centipede can be shot and the flea takes a few shots to kill so it speeds up your shooting as well.
