Hi all. I will be the first to tell you tht I don't know Jack about board work, or why this game is set up this way.

That said, I have an issue with the sound on my Centipede coctail machine. I *think* it is the original Atari board, with the exception of the multipede kit. I bought the game this way, and it's been solid for the last 7 years. Now, there is very little sound.

And the sound setup is, well, different. Someone (not me) put in a computer subwoofer and speaker. I don't knwo how to take this thing apart, so I don't know how to get it out of there to check it.

I made a video of the issue. Please take your Dramamene if you're easily seasick before watching the video.

I don't even know where to start. I love this machine, and it's just no fun without sound :(

Get a large 2200ohm at 25v or greater volts or larger capacitor and put it between ground and +12 on the switcher. I had a centipede modified to work with a switcher before that I got from someone and had horrible hum that took care of the problem, also that's a millipede board, centipede cannot take the multipede kit.

You also might want to consider hiring someone to put that game back in original condition as you'll probably have trouble getting assistance and fixing in the future with all those hacks in there.

Thank you for the info, I didn't realize that Centipeded couldn't run the kit. I can have someone add the capacitor. That's like Greek to me LOL.

I would have no problem with that at all. I find it kind of odd the way it is set up now. I don't need booming bass in a Centipede. I know a few local (albeit very busy) people. I will try to reach out to see what can be done.

I appreciate your reply. Have a great day!

So, a little follow up to this issue.

The issue persists, and does not seem to have been related to the subwoofer that had been intalled.

I removed that today, and redirected the speaker wiring back to the original side speaker.

Still the sound is very faint. I got some static as well, so thin led me to think it could be the volume pot, which led me to another issue.

Where is the volume pot on a centipede coctail? In the manual, it looks like it should be next to the test switch. My test switch setup does not have one. Picture below.....

So I am thinking the test swtch was replaced at some point, didnt have a volume control, and the computer speaker setup was their solution?

Not 100% on that "logic" but now I am wondering if there is a way to adjust the volume and that is my issue.
