I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with both, or if anyone had any problems/gripes with either one.

I have bought from Arcadeshop before for CPOs but haven't purchased full Side Art yet. I have not yet bought anything from Phoenix Arcade. Arcadeshop is a little more expensive but that doesn't really matter to me as much as quality of the art and the material.

So, which is better, Atchadeshop's or Phoenix Arcade's Centipede side art?

All opinions appreciated, thanks!

Have no fear ordering from PhoenixArcade, as he sells no junk. I have bought the Centipede art from him and it's great stuff. 95% of the work is in the prep for applying new sideart.

I believe, don't quote me, that Phoenix Arcade sold Centipede side art to Arcadeshop, so it should be the exact same stuff.

If it was me, I always support PA. Always. Buy from Darin.

Interesting.

Thanks for the feedback. Went ahead and placed an order with Phoenix for the side art.

Will eventually be ordering Asteroids side art from Arcadeshop, so will be able to compare general quality.

Got the side art from Phoenix Arcade. Haven't applied it yet, but I am already a little disappointed. There is no premask.

is that the stuff that would be ontop the side art and peeled off after the art is applied, only advantage would be that it would protect the art but, that said is it 100% needed.

if so have you seen any centipede art with it on?
:)

is the art scratched or damaged in any way? the premask is only there to protect the art from damage of this type. It really serves no other purpose. Personally I hate premask. In my experiences premask has been an issue with not only older art but also newer repro art. I've had scenarios with both where the premask did not want to come off. On my DK (newer repro art) there is still adhesive residue left from the premask that even magic eraser will not take off. The only solution is to replace the piece of side art.

On a premasked piece of vinyl I got the vinyl had a run in it that was not visible due to the premask. So the vinyl was applied to my restored machine with a run in it due to the premask hiding the imperfection. Had the premask not been there I would have seen the run and not applied the vinyl. Probably would have asked to have the vinyl replaced or for a refund rather than apply it to a machine.

Just my experiences but I really see little purpose for premask.

Premask helps by protecting the art while you apply it. So you can use a J-Roller or squeegee and not scratch the art.

As for have I seen it before on centipede side art. No, hence my original question of the difference between the providers of the art. It was present on my Missile Command side art and Asteroids side art.

Is it 100% necessary? No. Which is why I will still be using it. The art itself looks great. All I said was I was disappointed. I personally like having the premask on my side art, but I will deal and I am sure it will still come out looking great.
