Just talked to a buddy who rescued a Centipede cabinet from certain doom. He says that the cabinet itself is in great condition but he can't get it to power up (my guess is something has been knocked loose or a fuse is blown). He told me that the coin counter will register a coin and the red light on the mother board comes on. Other than that there is no response. I am looking for suggestions as to where I should start with this one, especially since he is about an hour away and I want to make every trip count. Thanks in adavance.

is his start button solid or blinking? start with the voltages from the brick and the ARII, and if you have any pokeys take them along.

Does the monitor work?

A pokey is a sound chip on the board. if it goes bad, it can cause other problems.

Find out what's keeping his monitor from working (no voltage, bad chassis, etc) first. Once you know it is working, you may be able to see what's wrong from the screen.

Also, check the troubleshooting tips in the manual. Putting it into test mode should give you some beeps if you have good power but a bad board...

Update

Okay, I just joined this board this morning. Ive lurked on it allot after i got my machine however.

The machine is now playing blind, I removed the coin door safety switch and the back cabinet switch to make it easier on me to follow the power source. I am now getting power to everything.
When I switch the game to test mode I get good beeps from each button. One long beep while holding down one button and the tone changes as you depress each one.

Where I am now feels like I'm getting very close to fixing this thing.
I removed the monitor and took it apart.(no tube glow at all) Ive checked the fuses and caps and they all show on my multimeter that they are the correct continuity.
I did however find allot of black "dust" around and under the neck tube parts.
Also noticed one visually burned out regulator of some kind.

I have a pic if you can tell me what it is.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A few other things I change with every rebuild - these are not in the kit, just my personal preference to do since I'm already in there. I've had these go bad before so I make the change.

R908- 47K 1/2w
R516 & R517- 180K 1/2w
C520 & C301- 3.3uf 50v non-polar electrolytic

This may help you as well. http://www.pinrepair.com/g07/

As always, set your B+ when you fire it all up before making any adjustments.

But wait 20 minutes before doing so, so the monitor can properly warm up and come to operating temperature.

The B+ on this monitor is 120VDC. It's metered by placing your black lead on the frame, and your red lead on the further leg of R901 - which is the white ceramic resistor on the left side of the chassis, attached to the frame.

Thanks for all the advice and help.

I rechecked the transistor in the pic i posted.. the reading on it was 462
I checked the one that looked new and it was 002, looks can be deceiving i suppose.

I don't know, but it looks like you need to put the monitor in the machine to get it to stop playing blind :D
