I purchased a centipede board from another forum member. The game I bought was missing a board. I installed the board and the trackball control seemed sticky... the shooter didnt want to move up and down real well.
I used penetrating oil on the bearings and the ball moved easier but the player still had problems being responsive to the trackball.
I went ahead and ordered a rebuild kit... installed it. The shooter still has problems moving up and down - sometimes it wont move up or down at all...
Any ideas on this??

Could just be dirty optics on your photo sensors. I would try using a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean them first. Make sure your optical encoder wheel is not rubbing on the sensors, and is in fact spinning with ball movement.

Also IIRC there are dip switch settings for ball size, UR, Cocktail etc. I think this changes the # of pulses per movement. So you might want to check that you have them set correctly (I don't think that will be your problem though)

Can you swap optics boards between X and Y axis? If so that could help you determine if it's a main board issue or if it's an optic board issue.
