First of all thank you to everyone that helped diagnose my bad pokey chip. I took it out, cleaned, and reseated it and voila sound. I was basking in glory and high fiving myself until I realized the mushrooms disappeared.

Is this still a pokey issue or is this a playfield RAM thing? I would rather not drop $80 on a board if it's just a chip. I googled the hell out of it, but came up blank.

Below are the before and afters.

As for your issue, I've got a desoldering setup and a ton of sockets - if you can narrow down the issue we can swap out parts fairly quickly.

You could try replacing the Pokey socket. Could also be a problem in the address decoder circuit.

Playfield ram would show up in POST....

Probably still just the Pokey or socket... atari sockets of that era seriously suck ass.

The plastic housing pops right off the socket and you can desolder the pins one by one... doesn't take any special equipment to swap....
