Hi - I have a Centipede PCB with the only problem being a speaker hum. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help.

Thanks

Try replacing the LM324 at J10. (Also visually inspect all resistors and caps around this IC)

Just yesterday I fixed my Asteroids where I identified that the logic PCB (and not the ARI or grounding or connectors etc) was the issue. Just replacing this opamp removed the HUM issue.

YMMV

Yes, Andrew - same thread, same issue. Problem is replacing LM324 is beyond my comfort zone at the moment, thus the request to see if someone might be able to help...

Ok. You've got a bunch of guys right near you, but if you can't find someone local to do it, I can help. It's just going to cost a lot to ship it back and forth (relatively speaking).

FWIW, you can clip the legs of the old chip, and that will make removing it fairly easily (which is typically the hard part). Soldering the new one is is pretty straightforward, as long as you have anything but the crappiest iron and solder.

Yeah this is a great repair to try on your own. You can do it! Confidence. The great thing about centipede is even if you totally screw up centipedes are plentiful so you don't have to fear about destroying a super expensive board. That said hopefully you won't destroy it, just remember don't keep your solder on a pin too long. If longer than 8-10 seconds stop. Also use thin solder it melts easier and cleaner to many people use super thick solder. Thin solder is the way to go.
