Centipede intermittent Bootup Issues... Where would you start?

Got my Centipede cab up and running this week, but I'm still experiencing intermittent booting issues. Sometimes everything boots up fine... Cone buttons flashing, attract mode on the screen, etc... Other times when powering on, the cone buttons stay lit (No flashing) and no image on the screen.

I've tested the voltages on the ARII and PCB and both are getting the proper voltages... Not sure if it is coincidence or not but when this happens I power it off, unplug / replug some connectors on the ARII. Sometimes that works but not always... Other times I reseat the edge connector on the PCB and it works but again, not always. I think that is just coincidence.

I would like to be able to put the back on the cab and not have to worry about it in my line up... Where would you start?

And don't mind the CPO... It will get the right one sometime!

Definately, the whole purpose of the cap is to filter out a/c voltage, because if a/c voltage gets onto your DC it causes weird issues like lock ups, etc.

So I am finally getting back around to this... Replaced big blue, and still having the same issue... I'm thinking of ordering an ARII re-build kit next. Anyone have ideas?

Touch up the solder on the back of the header connectors on that ARII board. If that doesn't solve the issue, then a Bob Roberts ARII rebuild kit is in order. I believe his kits also include new connectors too.

I recently had a talk with my good friend Ady from www.andysarcade.de

He is one of the best board repair guys I know and he said that recently he had been solving a lot of issues with his machines by replacing the contacts of the PCB edge connectors.

It is something I have always advocated and it is probably the most overlooked cause of trouble.

Here's the video I made about it a long time ago:

Please excuse my English...

You should contact brzezicki, he did a repair for me and knows these boards well.

Do you think that it is a board issue?

Have you checked/replaced the Interlock Safety Switch on the door? This happened to be the intermittent reboot issue that KMK68Sin was having with his Cenitpede.

The previous owner bypassed the interlock switch at the door and has those wires crimped together... Probably wouldn't hurt to clean that up, but honestly if that was the case then the machine would act dead wouldn't it? I wouldn't get marquee, P1 / P2 LED's etc...

I'm going to try the ARII work that smalltownguy suggested next and then move to a rebuild if that doesn't work. Then the next step would be repinning the edge connector... I hope I don't have to go that far!

As for the ugly CPO, I can't take credit for that either... Thats how it came to me and I just haven't replaced it yet. I may leave that up to the next owner as this game won't be mine for ever. I unfortunately have to downsize my collection due to a relocation. I'm moving south where the houses don't have basements :( Only a few games are going to be able to come with me.
