Hello... For starters, this is my first dedicated pcb/cabinet. Have been a MAME/Multi jamma guy for the last several years... So I hope this is not an obvious question situation.

I have checked all connections and used 3 different button/switch combos.

I have like a 1/2 second delay when I hit the fire button. Very annoying. Can someone point me in the right direction to begin troubleshooting? Google was not my friend.

Thanks!

Matt

As you haven't described how you tried other switches...

I'd start by just taking the CP out of the picture by disconnecting the control panel and just grounding the input. If it's still delayed then we can move onto the board.

Thanks for the quick replys. I am out for the evening... But will check line reistance in the morning. Also will check with cp off.

It was is old, dirty cabaret...when I say checked switches...i just mean i pulled the gunk infesred button and used a new one with known working microswitch... So nothing of much substance.

Very much a noob to dedicated machines...but thoroughly enjoy troubleshooting and teaching myself how to do new stuff. So I appreciate the patience and advice.

Lol I've never ever seen this problem. I cannot even think of a valid cause of what could theoretically cause such an issue. A dirty switch could but not if you tried 3 separate switches (unless they are all so dirty, and even that would not explain a consistent 30 second delay in each press)

Sounds a lot like a broken / intermittent wire somewhere. Check pins on your edge connector and the CP harness connectors. If possible, clip your meter to the far ends of the path and move the wire around, checking for changes in resistance as you manipulate it.

How does the input respond in service mode?

Note that only one shot can be on-screen at a time, so there will be a delay in firing the next shot depending on how far the previous shot travels :)

Doh... I totally forgot about this "feature" of Centipede. I'm going to go with this.. Simple answer is probably going to be it.

Rats

Well...it appears my MM crapped out....and because I live in rural Nebraska there is no store "down the street."
Maybe its just me...comparing to my MAME and ArcadeSD board there is a definite delay... Like half a second.

I am going to try to run new ground and action wires directly from switch to pcb board to see if there is a difference.

I understand the one shot on screen deal...but this just seems "off" a bit. Again, maybe just me. Wish I could find an original machine close by to compare.

Thanks again for the replys...appreciated.

The archer should fire immediately as long as there are no shoots on the screen.
A good way to test is to go right up and directly undera mushroom on the bottom of he play field and fire it should fire so fast the mushroom should instantly disappear basically.

Check and see if your button is wired backwards, and it's firing as you let go of the button.

He said he used a microswitch... so if he wired it backwards it would fire when you let go of the button.

I think on Centipede it wouldn't work like that though because I believe it does auto fire so it'd just be shooting constantly if it was wired backwards...

Regardless....

of if I get this solved...I consider the thread a success. With a Ron Burgundy drop in.

However, with my lack of skills, It should probobly be Brian Fantana saying "60 percent of the time it works every time."

Got it.

Looks like it was a bad ground wire...thought I had checked that thoroughly. On the harness connector actually was just a bit corroded...Swapped in a new one.

Problem gone. Feel kind of foolish actually. Sometimes I guess you just need to go public first.

Thanks again!

Man...this sure seems like a tough version of the game...

Was there different ROMs released? Even on the "easy" setting I struggle to get to 35,000.
