Centipede cocktail controls...what am I doing wrong?

Okay....My centipede restoration is 99% done. Game fires up and looks absolutely beautiful on my re-capped G07. Sound is fantastic. All voltages measure and are spot on.

Here's the problem...I have absolutely no input from either Player 1 or Player 2 fire or trackball inputs. This is driving me crazy. The wiring looks good, the voltages are good. Is there a ram that is bad?

Self test gives me no ROM problems, but obviously I can't check the trackball or fire buttons.

HELP!!!!

I know you said you checked the wiring, but double-check your ground connections between the pcb and controls.

It could be a bad chip @ E3 (address decoder), but then your RAM is ok right? Can you try flipping into test mode and fiddling with the option switches on the board? See if things change then.

Thanks for the offer..where are you located ? :) I double checked all the wiring..no problems with the ground. I find it awfully odd that BOTH trackballs and BOTH fire buttons have no input..

Voltages check out okay. Would a bad E3 always show up during the self test? I feel like I'm missing something really stupid here.

I've been playing with this thing for three days...still no trackball/fire button input. Voltages are good, harness is good. I think I've got to basically replace every RAM that has anything to do with the fire button and trackballs. Unfortunatley I don't have a logic probe to test every RAM....Are there any ones that are likely the culprit...keep in mind I had to change the Pokey (voltage problem fried it), so I imagine neighbors E3 and F3 may have problems (playfield address?).

Test Mode shows no error codes, no beeps. No trackball or fire button inputs as well. I followed your advice and fiddled with the DIP switches..no change.

While you're in test mode, move the DIP switches and look to see if there are any changes to the options in test mode. You should be able to change the number of shooters, easy/hard mode, language, etc. If you don't see any changes, that could mean a bad decoder @ H3. If you do see changes, then try pushing the player 1 and 2 start buttons. you should see color changes and hear tones. If you don't, then it might be a problem with the LS32 @ E3. If you do see color changes and hear tones, then it could be a bad LS157 @ E11.

BTW I do work on these if you find you need help.

Thanks again for the reply. I see color changes when pressing player 1 and 2 start buttons...also I do hear tones when I press player 1 and 2 start buttons.

Looks like I'm off to get an LS157.

Anything else I should get "just in case?"

bit_slicer....you and spyridon were both right.

I replaced the LS157 but the problem persisted. Retraced my grounds and found that the control ground was in pin 15 of the edge connector. Spliced it into the Z slot ground and controls are working fine. Stupid rookie mistake.

Thanks again for your help!
