Just picked up a Centipede Cabaret and after some play time the monitor went. Just so happens I have a 19" in another games that has an all new board and whatnot on it. So I pulled it and put it in the Centipede Cabaret. Only issue is the video harnesses are way different. New monitor has 5 wires and the Centipede Cabaret harness has 6 wires. I can identify on the Centipede Cabaret harness the red, blue, green but I have no idea on the other 3. And I can identify the red, blue, green and the sync wire on the new monitor. I just lost on the wiring other then the red, blue, green video wires.

Where do those wires go to on the new monitor? Show us where they plug in.

Centipede is a positive sync game, so all of the video feeds are going to go to one harness. They are

  • R
  • G
  • B
  • ground
  • pos vertical sync
  • pos horizontal sync

The bare wires I see in your 2nd pic appear to be R,G,B,Gnd, and composite negative sync. This is what 90% of the games from the JAMMA era ran with.

As I said, Please show us pics of where the bare wires plug into your new monitor, and then we can help you.

6 wires on the Centipede Cabaret is as follows.

Red .................... Yellow with red strip
Green.................. Yellow wire green strip
Blue.....................Yellow wire with blue strip
Video return..........Greenish wire with white strip
Vertical sync ........Red wire with white strip
Horizontal sync .....Violet wire with white strip

On the other cable.

Red = Red
Green = Green
Blue = Blue
Black = Video return/ Greenish wire with white strip
White = Violet wire with White strip/ Horizontal sync.

that did the trick but the what do i do with the vertical sync cause that still causing issues.

Thanks for that. So that monitor chassis looks like it ONLY has a negative sync connection, unless it's an 'auto' sync style chassis. Sometimes manufacturers included a push button mounted on the chassis to flip the sync circuits to work with either positive or negative sync signals going to the pins. Does your new monitor chassis have a switch like this? It might look like a little square.

But honestly, an easier solution would be to take RetroHacker's advice, and tap a line from your Centipede board to your new monitor chassis.

In this picture:

  • Yellow/Red is your Red feed, splice to red wire on new harness.
  • Yellow/Green is your Green feed, splice to green wire on new harness.
  • Yellow/Blue is your Blue feed, splice to blue wire on new harness.
  • Blue/White is your ground feed, splice to the black wire on your new harness.
  • Red/White - will not be used (positive vertical sync)
  • Purple/White - will not be used (positive horizontal sync)
  • Lastly, connect a wire from pin 12 of the smaller edge connector to the white wire on your new harness.

That should give you the connection you need for your new monitor.

Not quite. It appears that his new monitor is looking for composite negative sync. Best to get that straight from the board, rather than trying to mix positive and negative sync.

good deal worked perfect. Only thing now is the monitor isn't as nice as i had though. There is alot of discoloring bleeding on the one half.

Boy this thread moves fast, Laughs I am glad so many here are helping :)

I wonder what causing the bleeding issues? Too much brightness or contrast?

The old monitor is a G07 but it has real bad Centipede burn. The bleeding is probably just focus I havent tweaked it yet.

Here is a pic of the screen:

Degauss and focus.

Funny it doesn't seem to work the other way around. Nothing more fun watching a tech in training, spend so much time to focus a screen and get the convergence just right and then degauss the monitor and wonder why it still doesn't look right. Hey boss this monitor must be defective laughs.

Degauss wait ya im a idiot. The wand thing I have to get one of those. Anyone know a good place??

Just a note to any one who stumbles across this post.

Make sure you remove your watch, wallet, cell phone or any electronic devices when you degauss. While it's unlikely you do any damage, it's always been better safe than sorry habit I got into.
