I just picked up a Centipede cabaret with a small problem. The screen has a very noticeable vertical shake to it. Its playable, but will give you a migrane eventually. Where should I start? Is this a common problem?

Start by checking the power supply. If you have another machine you can temporarily transfer the monitor into it in order to isolate the problem to either the pcb or monitor, though I think it is more likely a power problem causing the pcb to go nuts.

Where should I be checking for voltages? Id rather not swap monitors yet. Thats a PITA. I am new at this sort of problem, youll have to excuse me.

There is an ARII board at or near the bottom of the cabinet. It should have well marked test points for 12vdc and, I believe, 5vdc. Check those to see how close they are, they each have a pot for adjustment.

Cap kit is on the way. Is there anything else I can try/test in the meantime?

Well, we have no idea what monitor is in it, so we won't be much help. If you have questions while rebuilding it, ask in the monitor section so the experts there can help

Hook another monitor up to it so you can verify everything else works in the meantime? Did you get a trackball rebuild kit too?

Its an Electrohome G07 19". I have done a cap kit before on my DK, so this shouldnt be too new to me. The trackball works decently, all it needs is a good cleaning and some white lithium.

Well, the G07 has a tendency to blow the flyback after a cap kit only if the flyback is still the old original grey one. it's always best to replace it during a rebuild if it's still the original. if it has been replaced before, then there is no need to replace it during the rebuild....

for what replacing it is worth , well worth the insurace of a solid working chassis. the one and only time I didnt re fly a GO7 , smoke test went well , burn in went ok , put into machine , 2 hrs later POP let the magic smoke out
