Board was working then next power on I get the archer and the spider split in half. Small gap between two halves. Other than that the game players fine. Background image is fine no problem with the mushrooms.

I always forget where exactly this occurs but run into it a few times, it's roughly in the motion video section that draws the sprites. Check out my centipede and millipede repair logs at

I'm sure I have documented some of my repairs on those which should help you narrow it down to a few chips.

is the split a true split where both halves are moved apart or is there just a line missing on the sprite and the sprite is normal size.

Sounds like an address line is missing somewhere on a ROM, RAM, or PROM.

Look for gouged traces, smeared traces that are shorting, or a pin not in the socket but bent under a chip.

sorted through your repair logs and found the counter chips you were talking about and the first chip I pulled F6 tested bad on the BK560. Unfortunately I don't have a spare 74ls83 on hand so I have to wait a couple of days to confirm. I thought it might be one of these counters but using my probe gave no definitive results to go by as an obvious red flag. Thanks for the detailed logs.

really appreciate the help.

Nice glad the logs were able to help you. Hopefully that will take care of your issue!

Yep that took care of the problem. Here are a couple of pictures of the problem.
