Melchman just brokered the sale of a nice Centipede from his in-laws to me (it really is a nice one - he replaced the monitor and they never played it much, so it might as well be brand new). I just went and picked it up (lovely folks, lovely home. Shame the thing was on the second floor, what what are you gonna do?).

I get it home, wife and I get it out of the car (Scion xB's actually have a lot of room in them) and into the garage, line it up with the door to the family room and

...

that doesn't look wide enough. Measuring tape says...Well, if I take off all the weather stripping and pull the door, I MIGHT have 1/4 of an inch to work with. Perhaps.

I'm gonna go buy a real furniture dolly tomorrow and take it around the front where the double doors are. Then I can just roll it through the house.

Why is NOTHING ever...well, reasonable? I don't expect easy, that's asking too much. But come on, reasonable? 29 or 30 inch doors? Isn't that reasonable?

Nice getting a pede! Awesome game I think! Sucky the doors too narrow!! I had to remove the door frame to get some of my games into my basement area.

Centipede is a heavy beast too. How did you get other stuff in your house if the door is that narrow?

Missile Command cocktail is narrower, and it's the only other one in that room. All the full size cabs and the pin are in the basement.

The game is pretty cool - we got a dolly and went in the front door last night and got it into position (interestingly, the body of Centipede is also taller than Missile Command) and started playing - the monitor is beautiful!

Plays great too - the trackballs work very well. I might open them up and swap the balls (I've got spares and one is kind of yellow). I managed to set a high score last night, but I'm sure that my wife will beat that soon enough.

That's why when i renovated my house, i replaced all entry doors with 36inch doors.

I like wider doors anyway, so if I ever do any renovations, I'll do the same.

I have to say the double doors on the front of my house are nice in this regard - there's no center post, so you can get this massive 5 foot wide opening, if you want. Really nice.

What's crazier than the width of doors (or lack thereof) is the damned price. Have you guys priced external doors lately? It's friggin' crazy. What are they made of? Wood and glass or plutonium and veal? Makes me seriously consider launching a doors factory and outsourcing to China.
