My centipede is playing so quietly that I can barely hear it.
I haven't checked much, but the volume knob is still working (right now it turns it up from no sound to super quiet). The speaker is obviously working if it's playing at all, right?

So, what else should I be looking for? I assume there's something on the ARII board that I should be checking, but I'm lost from there.

I don't believe it has. I've owned the game for about 5 years and I think it probably came out of an op's warehouse before that.

A bad TDA-2002 ( sound amplifier) will do that. There are 2 on that Ar-2 board ( mounted to the heatsink) and if one is bad the volume will be low.

BTW, they are not in the kit.

Those amps are not included in most cap kits for these boards. If you decide to rebuild the board you will need to order the amps in addition to the cap kit.

I know this is old but maybe you or someone can tell me how you fixed this I am having the same issue.

As suggested above, I replaced the sound amps that were attached to the heat sink. The sound came right back. I still have not rebuilt the board. That's all that was wrong with it. I'm sure some day I'll do the whole kit.

I am having trouble locating a schematic to show what pins are what to test if anyone could help me out that would be great!

I wonder why those LM324's all seem to die on the Centi boards ? Overloaded ?

Mine had the same issue.

LM324s seem to die on a lot of boards. Not just limited to Centipede.

Done lol. How bad is it desoldering and resoldering those? Never done it before but I have some junk boards to practice on first.

Get a desoldering tool before attempting this. Available at Radio shack for like $11:

Works great. Be careful not to torch the board, and keep the tip clean. Should provide years of service. Replacement tips are readily available. I love this tool.

Got that exact one I believe. A good buddy hooked me up with some of his old tools and stuff and is going to give me some lessons so I am not on my own but thanks for the confidence builder!
