question on Centipede a original 1980 machine....why is the fire button so slow when out in the open? if you nail the mushrooms it speeds up nicely...I assume that's how it plays normally?

another newbie question, the display on the screen is rotated clockwise Off about a 1/4" square... check out the text at the bottom of the screen...did the monitor get mounted a tad crooked from new or is there a screen adjustment? monitor looks square from the back and tight in the frame, you really cant tell playing but the 1980 ATARI at the bottom screams at me being crooked.

Thnx, B.

I believe you can only have so many shots on screen at one time, so when hitting close mushrooms you can fire again more quickly. Mine is the same, so I believe its normal.

Can't answer the monitor question, but nice cabaret!

Could be that too, looking at how strait the left side is my vote is caps.......

I am looking at the Top and bottom they look like it's off by the same amount.
Turn off the monitor. Get a marker and mark the position of the yoke. Loose it and give the whole assemble a little twist and tighten it back up and see if that doesn't make fix it.
If it doesn't put it back in the original position and buy a recap kit for your crt Model.

If you not comfortable with that call your local repair guy to come out and fix it.

centipede has always been slow shot when firing out into the open, fast when hitting a mushroom or the bad guys,i think its all part of the gameplay and forms some kinda tactic as you dont want to destroy mushorooms has they help you fire fast yet they also get in your way so you have to get a balance between the 2.
:)

You can only have one shot on the screen. When in the open, you need to wait until it gets to the top of the screen. When you hit something, you have another shot available.

Much like Galaxian. You can't shoot again until your other shot hits something.

Nice grab on the cabinet! I'm assuming this is the cab that was on Craigslist for $150 in Lynnwood. The ad had been up for almost an hour by the time I saw it, so I didn't even bother calling.

1. Monitor - i agree with other advice, but also first check Horiz Hold adjustment, this can cause picture bending if slightly off.

2. Shots - centipede allows only one shot on-screen at a time. get good at NOT shooting. let off the button. be more strategic. utilize the mushrooms to create rapid fire traps for the centipede. there is nothing more frustrating that not being able to shoot a spider or flea because you're aimlessly holding down the fire button and not shooting with more precision.

I figured it was firing normal, had to ask though...tough game but fun to play, I never played back in the day, defiantly hooked on it now. I will wait for some help from a local member before adjusting the yoke...I need a little more experience on these games, I dont want to mess it up, game is low hr like new.

yes I was dang lucky and finally got a deal on a game, lol. it is my cherry in the collection it is mint.

working on the guy for possible pictures...a real interesting guy...you local guys will appreciate this, turns out he was partners with another guy back in the day and ran a few arcades in our area...he had one in Ballard, one out in Lynnwood, and one in Bellevue..back then arcades were not allowed in Bellevue..they had this high opinion of there city...anyway he called it a showroom and had prices on the games as for sale to skirt the law... and had machines dropped in all over the place around town, I was a North Seattle kid my world was small back then and never saw the places...you guys recall them?

I had to rush home so didn't get to talk with him for long about the games and his places , he lit up when I started talking about games and the fun, he rattled off a bunch of games names and how they would pack with quarters so fast they would jam and not play... he described hand trucking huge piles of quarters to the bank , I have a call into him to try and get some more history from him. this game was the only one he kept when they got out, the wife liked Centipede, it sat in the basement game room mostly off all these years.

I bought a Centipede off an Op in northern Ontario and he riveted an extra lower reservoir to the coin box so he could extend his pick-up times. I thought it was a nifty item.

Unfortunately, my Centi came with Aero Fighters (playing blind) installed w/ two joys (not trackball) and the glass marquee was replaced by a covered-up Devil Zone. *sigh* But it was $150.
