I have a 10 year old Rock-Ola Bubbler nostalgia. I replaced the cd laser about two weeks ago. Its playing well but sometimes the first track will skip and stutter the first 15-30 sec of the song. No other tracks will do this. And if I let the disc play and then have it play track one again (after say track 8,9 and 10) it wont skip. So it's really only at the very start up. I am playing CD-R's so maybe this is the problem? Any ideas?

Also, Is there any way to adjust the gripper arm at all? I read through the entire manual and couldn't see anything specific to gripper arm adjustment. Mine actually has a little side to side play in at well but could see no way of tightening it down. The manual only shows how to remove it and clean it but in the explode-a-view photo I see no way of adjusting it. I was having some trouble every once in a while where the gripper arm wouldn't grab the disc right. Almost like it had a weak grip on it and the disc moved a little while it was bringing the disc down.

Sorry for all the questions.

follow the instructions on cleaning the gripper bow to take care of your gripper issue.

CD player needs to be cleaned and lubed with white-lithium grease on the "rails" and "side housing groove". More than likely either dust, dirt or even dried grease build-up will be your problem. It requires removing the CD player and removing the pcb on the bottom of the cd player to access the grease-points.
