All,

I can finally, officially report that the dates for this year's CA Extreme show are 100% set.

The show will be held on the final weekend of July:

Dates: 7/28 and 7/29
Hours: Saturday: 11AM - 2AM
Sunday : 11AM - 9PM
Location: Santa Clara Hyatt
5101 Great America Parkway,
Santa Clara, California

Pre-registrants will get in 1/2 hour earlier on each day (10:30AM)

As far as I know, bringing 3 games will entitle one to a free weekend pass, 2 games = $40 discount, 1 game = $20 discount (same deal as for previous years). A 4th game will get you a free T-shirt :) .

I'm also told that the hotel rate should be the same as last year (around $87/night). The booking system is not quite set up just yet, however...I expect that it will in place very soon so keep your eyes open as the hotel filled up fast last year :) . Be sure to mention the show to get the rate of course.

I'll update as I get more information, but again the dates are now 100% set!

See y'all there, and as always, please let me know what games you will be bringing if you are so inclined ;) .

Yea!!!

Jonathan

I'm currently working on making a trip to the bay happen for this year. I'll have my wife and daughter along and my wife isn't into the games so she'll find something else to do for most of Sat and Sun.

I'll make a 5-6 day trip out of it so I need suggestions of family things to do around the bay.

We've done...

Alcatraz
Fishermans Wharf
Oakland Zoo
Winchester House
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Gilroy Gardens
Great America
Discovery Kingdom
Monterey Aquarium

any ideas? - Barry

Get a limo and take the Russian River Wine Tour. We did it with some friends and we were all so wasted by the time we made it into town, we decided if we ever did it again we would hire a limo. (here is a link that gives several wine areas: http://www.wineroad.com/)

Take a drive over to Half Moon Bay. There are usually several different festivals going on during the summer.

Intel used to have a technology museum in San Jose. Even my wife who isn't a geek thought it was cool. (Edit: just looked it up, it's in Santa Clara: http://www.intel.com/intel/company/corp11.htm).

Weirdstuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale: http://www.weirdstuff.com/. It makes for a fun afternoon of looking at old tech. You can sometimes make some money. I bought a PC version of UNIX for $3 there and sold it 10 years later for over $300 on ebay :D.

Just take a drive along the coast. Lots of cool little towns.

Hey Ken.. Thanks for mentioning my hometown!

Lotsa good places to eat here!

Sam's Chowder House
Spanishtown
Barbara's Fishtrap
Half Moon Bay Brewing Co

Cool places to stay (if you have some extra $$$):

Oceano (Overlooks the harbor)
Ritz Carlton (Overlooks the Pacific Ocean)

Half Moon Bay is about 45mins north of Santa Cruz (The Beach Boardwalk has several arcades)

Looking forward to CAX!!

The Tech Museum in San Jose is pretty cool and you can take the light rail from the hotel to it.
The Boardwalk is another place to go for amusement rides.
Great America is right across from the hotel also.
Avoid Gilroy Gardens, the food is crappy and way over priced.

I'm really excited about CAX this year. I haven't been to CAX since 2008. I brought 3 games that year and had a blast! Now that my life has been steered full throttle back into this hobby I will be there with 6 or so games!

Here is my list so far:

Paperboy
Defender
Street Fighter II Championship Edition
Street Fighter 1 (if I can get this project finished)
Space Invaders Deluxe (if I can find a system board)
(still need to find #6)

I booked my room at the Hyatt already!!!

:)

Hey guys!

I suggest waiting to book until CAX is into the hotel's system officially. The reason being that once the hotel has the room bloc set up for CAX itself, the show gets the needed credit for booking the hotel which really helps us out on overall costs.

I expect the hotel will have things set up very soon...hopefully by early this week.
