so i'm over here spraying this stencil work for my stargate. the fantasy of having a machine in my house is getting closer to reality. I was just thinking about my cat and had a horrible thought. has anyone ever had their cat use their cab as a scratching post? lol, i'll murderize it!

I was slightly worried that my new cat we got around Christmas (has all claws) would start clawing machines or chew wires. Neither has happened. We got a small scratching post for the living room, another small scratching wave-like apparatus, and a bunch of toys to bat around. Only thing I saw was that she jumped on the pinball machine once, and hasn't done it again (at least with me watching). Cats w/ claws like to put their claws "into" things. Wound-up twine, berber carpet and corrugated cardboard are things they like best. You occupy them with things they like, and they'll most likely leave your machines alone.

I've lived with various cats and various machines, and no scratching whatsoever. Expected them to, but they didn't.

They love sitting on the tops, though. High perches...

I have two cats and they both like sleeping on my control panel on my neogeo cab. The F**kers always leave their hair behind but never encountered any scratches just hair.

I took out my coin door for a while and noticed that they would crawl in and climb all the way to the back of the monitor, pissed me off when I heard him rumbling in there. It's like everything in your house you have to make it cat proof.

Just have to get them use to scratching on a "stratch post" if they don't then kick their little asses. (that always works) :)

damn fur balls!

My cats love to jump up on my games and even take a nap on them. There have been some minor mishaps with no real damage done. Stuff like the cat misjudging and starting to fall or slide off the cab and of course trying to claw into something to keep from falling. Luckily those have all been falls off the back of slanted cabs so no damage to art or anything major.

My cats have a scratching post which they love. On rare occasion I see them stretch on a wall or even game and once stretched go into a clawing motion. I yell and they stop. Honestly I think it's more of a reaction when they are stretching than wanting to scratch the wall or a game. So far I've found no evidence that they've scratched any of my games.

I'm sure there are some cats that would see every game as a scratching post but I think you would know by now if your cat would likely do this. I'd imagine a cat that would use a game as a scratching post would use just about anything else as one too.

my cat is 19 years old,he did get into a couple cabs though thru the years.now he just sleeps and eats.

I've had cats since 1979 and video games since 1983. There were some attempted self-electrocutions from crawing into the Battlezone when it was powered up. I ended up putting some plexi across the space where the step had been and that stopped. I have never had any scratching issues. They like to be able to rip stuff with their claws and cabinets are just too hard. Your hands are in more danger from the cats coming to play with you while you are playing a game than your cabinets.

I had just rescued a little fur-ball that my wife picked out around Christmas.
So far she has been good about not scratching anything *knocks on wood table*. Love to scratch the shoe mat by the front door, and just dig her claws into the scratch post. She leaves my games alone, but loves to jump onto my Street Fighter II machine and look down and watch everything going on. She jumps from the back side off my slot machine, so she isn't digging her claws into anything, and jumps from the machine to the couch to get off.

Cats love high places, and anywhere they can sit and watch you. She tried sitting on the CP, and since my dynamo CP has a tilt to it. She got up on there from my game stool and started to walk across, tripped over one of the joysticks and tumbled off. LOL Didn't really land on her feet, so she has stayed off. They don't like to be on anything that is not sturdy, or easy to fall from.

So the easiest way I kept a cat from jumping on to something was to tilt it and make them fall. They tend not to trust the said platform anymore to be on it.

My black cat had a habit of crawling inside my cocktail pin before I put the lock on the door. Luckily he never did that while it was plugged in.

Last time he did it, I took my flat hand and smacked the shit out of the back and sides of the cab. He tore off out of there like a screamin' demon and hadn't tried to go back inside a game since.

Our other cat couldn't care less about the games or high places. She has a bad hip and just likes to go in and out of the vertical blinds at the sliding glass door.

Most of the times I yell at them and they run out of the game room. No animals allowed.

My cats seem too love my game room in the summer time . Heres a pic from a few years ago. Yeah they love DK ALLSO.

Yeah, they're trying to remove the outer layer of their claws (I find them laying around the house sometimes), and that corrugated cardboard stuff is perfect. I got one for mine, and she immediately started using it, without having seen one before...like she knew it was meant for her :) They do get messy though, as the pieces of cardboard shed off.
I don't have any pics of my cat on my games though, they're in the basement and I don't let her down there. She does like high places though, and will go up on high window sills, cabinets, top of the built in oven, etc.

lol, stupid says the tag. like every other thread on this forum? I can smell jealousy a mile away

anyway, why wouldn't this be a concern if you're into cats? I don't think my cat would give me any troubles. I use "soft paws" on his back feet. If he gives me any troubles, I'll put them on his front claws, too!

At least you don't have to worry about getting cat hair in the paint on your Stargate stenciling job :D

dude, there were a couple bugs that got in it. I swatted them away before it was too late. and if I offend anyone, alcohol was involved.
