I have a Ms. Pac that I will be doing a restoration on in the spring. While moving it and a few other games around, I noticed that there are carriage bolts through the side of the cabinet that hold the monitor mount brackets in place. Is this correct?

I had another Ms. Pac before and I don't remember there being bolts through the side of the cab.

I have a Super Pac (similar Midway cabinet) that has large plastic dowels in the approximate same place as the Ms. Pac carriage bolts, but they do not go all the way through the cab. They only seem to be there to locate the side brackets, which are held on the Super Pac with several smaller screws.

This Ms. Pac looks like it has been through hell, and I am thinking that the carriage bolts are a hack, but it also has the Super Pac style power supply, which I believe means that it is a late production cabinet. Is it possible that they changed something, or are all Ms. Pac cabinets like that and I just didn't notice before?

Does anybody know if the carriage bolts visible through the side of the Ms. Pac are correct?

You probably have the particle board cabinet, correct? It's not as strong as the original plywood ones, so maybe they all came with the bolts.

I have two original plywood Ms. Pac-man cabinets, and neither of them have bolts that go all the way through the cabinet's side.

No, the cabinet is definitely plywood.

As far as I know, the only bolts through a Ms Pacman would be in the front to hold the coin box. I've never seen one with them through the sides, even in a late production one with vinyl sideart. Here are some pictures of a very late production run of Ms Pac....no bolts:

I was originally thinking it was a very late run cabinet, but I just looked at the serial number stamped in the upper rear of the cabinet and it looks like 00056. Did they even start serial numbers with a zero? Also, the front kick plate was not painted over and the original artwork is painted on there.

I just dug my way through a mountain of crap in my storage area to get a picture. It is really difficult to see because the bolts are black and the cabinet has been painted black too.

If it wasn't for the painted on artwork on the front of the machine, I would think this was a different game converted to a Ms. Pac.

I don't know if I should get rid of these bolts when I do the restore or if I should keep them.

If you restore, definitely get rid of the bolts as they are if you can, because they definitely wouldn't be a positive thing to have showing on the outside of the cabinet.

I'm confused. You said your Ms Pac doesn't have any bolts and that I should get rid of them, but you posted a photo of your cab in another thread and the bolts in your cab are clearly visible in your photo.

What am I missing?

This man is correct. Ms. Pacman should not have any carriage bolts on the sides of the cabinet. Any that do may have had them added later for more strength.

That was a pic of my bad cabinet I was restoring. My good cabinet has no bolts, and the bolts on the bad cabinet only go through on that one side and in a different location than the bolts do on your cabinet.

I assume a previous op put them there to secure the control panel support because the bolt heads only exist on that one side of the bad cabinet.
