Recently traded for this Sega Carnival. I had been on the lookout for some time and it finally fell into my lap due to a trade with a local KLOV buddy.

Overall appearance is rough but the game plays perfectly. Everything works well - sound, controls etc. There is some monitor burn, but luckily this is a game with a dark background and won't be seen during game play.

The goal for this restore is to get the game in presentable condition with an overall clean up and get it in the arcade for play. This will not be a full restore. I plan to make this a "sandwich" game where it will be inserted between two others. If a full restore is involved, I likely won't get to it anytime soon and it will sit without being played or enjoyed. Planning to move fast with this one.

Here is what it currently looks like:

Removed the control panel, got it outdoors and started sanding the inner sides.

Once all was sanded, applied a couple of quick coats of black spray:

Then went to work on the white part of the cab - Magic Eraser and Simple Green with a lot of elbow grease to see what we can do. Wasn't perfect, but good enough for now:

Marquee

The marquee was in very good shape. Just a quick wash followed by a Novus polish and it's good to go:

Love carnival nice job so far. Clean, working, and with some character.

looking sweet. I have a project Carnival that will likely get similar treatment, eventually. Also can you do a restore thread on the cars in your driveway. Frogs, Carnival, Cars, super jealous.

Very nice! FYI if you want to clean up that bottom edge under the coin door I find Home Depot sell thin transparent plastic corners for putting in dry wall corners over paint to avoid dmange from things hitting the corners. With either self stick or small nails. I find this painted with whatever color to match whatever is around it really sharpens up the Edges and is like $2.00 for 8 feet and it takes only like a minute to install (paint it first before applying)
Here's an example before and after pic

The results are more dramatic depending on how bad the condition was before, this example really was already pretty good.

That's a good tip. I had bought an aluminum piece for that same purpose but this would be easier to work with.

Cool yeah aluminum works great too, I usually use the plastic if an edge has less than 1/2 inch of vertical damage as it's super cheap and super easy to work with (cuts with normal scissors) and go to aluminum if there is larger damage. Either way nice job and great game! Carnival is surprisingly addictive and fun game, great find and restore!

Got some time to work on the control panel.

BBQ'd the panel, then used a wire wheel brush, drill and Goo Gone to remove the old overlay. Washed, sprayed black then applied new overlay. Buttons were too far gone so had to go with new ones.

Its raining here this morning - glad I got some work done yesterday!

Got the new bezel in - here's a pic of the old on the left vs new. I still have the old one if anyone wants it.

Here, the old one is on top:

I needed to score the back of the new one to make the bend - so worked on that for a while - not perfect but good enough...

The new bezel did not come with the monitor tabs (sky blue), so I decided to try and pull off the old ones from the old bezel, clean them up with some Simple Green and glue/tape them to the new bezel. Turned out nice!

Finally installed it in the cab, but first added a piece of black construction paper where the marquee light is because the light was spilling over onto the monitor and washing it out.
