Awesome! That looks like you would play it standing up, though. King of like a cross between a cocktail and upright.

...

Its a pretty cool looking yet strange cabinet.
Obviously its a japanese import. Ive never seen one of these before until last year on ebay (game was being sold in phoenix and broken).

Luckily the game worked, but the background music was dead. Luckily I had a working board for it :)

It's called a "Slimline" cabinet. Gremlin/Sega used them for several games, such as Carnival and Astro-Fighter:

Until I saw the picture, I thought the title said Carnevil Cocktail. That would be really funky.

...

It worked, but the sound board (background sound) was bad.
Luckily I had an extra complete working pcb :)

carnival

thats a nice looking cocktail! i am bummed out, went to turn on my carnival last week and i get that loud blast sound and it powers up, but monitor went dead. now off to the garage with the other 10 games that need shopping!

I love my Carnival. Its a lot more fun to play than it looks like.

The sound boards can be a problem. There are no schematics or ROM dump for them. I've repaired several and probably know more about them than most. If you've got one that needs fixing PM me.

jon, i bought the other two and the other went to a local collector in houston.
i would have loved the carnival but it was too late :(

I'm the current owner of the model pictured in the first post. It's a great game.

I've since discovered that this is not an import. It does have some Japanese inside the machine, but it seems this was normal for many Sega/Gremlin games. Do a few Google searches for the Carnival flyer and you'll find one with the upright, the wide cocktail and the mini cocktail pictured on the backside.

If you went to the Northwest Pinball and Arcade show this year, then you may have seen it sitting next to the Joust Pinball! It got a lot of comments and a few people even made me offers on it.

These cabinets are called either Slimline or Trimline...and were designed to be in a bar location with customers either standing or sitting on stools...they use a 15" color monitor!

As far as we know, only 5 machines were made in this cabinet....I have the first four!
1. Carnival
2. Astro Fighter
3. Dual-Invinco/Deep Scan
4. Dual-Invinco/Head On 2

The fifth one has only been seen in the flyer...and I would love to own for my collection
Digger (I own a cocktail and I had an upright at one time--a great game)

Todd,

There was one more game made in this style from Sega/Gremlin. Head-On II............A member on this site is the proud owner of a VERY minty one. Maybe the only one. We hope he gives us the honor of having a number of pics and vids of this really awesome game he has. I will not reveal who has it, as it would be up to him to show it. Just know this game in a slimline exists and should be added to this list :)
