I have a carnevil, is there a quick way to turn it into a less violent game? would it be as easy as putting in a different hard drive? or is there nothing that simple for this game?

not that simple. i don't know of another gun game that uses that particular PCB, so a ROM and HD swap would not work. and while CarnEvil uses JAMMA for the main harness, it also has proprietary harnesses for the guns so you'd at least have to make some adapters for whatever board you do decide to install.

i was thinking of making adapters for mine so i could swap in my Zombie Raid PCB on occasion but i haven't gotten that far yet.

I swap all the area 51s, Maximum force, invasion, Johnny Nero action hero in my carnevil. Swap boards and connect gun harnes to the boards.

It would be pricey but you could convert it over to the newer Friction gun game. That was made to go into pretty much any gun cabinet. It has you shooting robots and they explode into pieces, you can also switch on blood but it's easy to switch it off.

From the service menu you can turn blood on and off, but you'd still be shooting things in the face so i don't know if it's "less" violent.

I guess I'm curios why you bought a Carnevil , but want less violence. Kind of like buying a Lamborghini and asking if you could make it "less" fast.
I am sure there are dozens of people in your area that would be thrilled to trade you a less violent gun game for a Carnevil.

Do you mean violent as in Evil Carnival or just the blood and guts and half dead bodies??? You can turn the violence to none so all baddies stay in tact and no blood is show. You can also change the Big Baby to a Teddy Bear so you aren't shooting a human. All that can be done from the in game diagnostic menu using the four push buttons inside the coin door.

just leave it off or sell it.

I had one, if i had my way i would hve kept it forever, but the gameplay is pretty violent.

My young one has showed some interest in the arcade over the past year,so i regretfully sold it. I couldnt see myself hising the gameplay from him for 12+ years before i felt he was ready to play it. It now lives at leinhits arcade.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have a few games and got this one because it was going for what I though was a good deal, and the owner of a local pizza store said he wanted it at his location.

I played though the whole game today, and you have to make it pretty far to get to the baby, so I don't think most people would even ever see it. I guess the pizza store is switching owners and the new owner is the one that wanted it, and the soon to be old owner is the one that said they got complaints about carnevil when they had one before... I think I will just let it sit and tell them I am looking for a new home for it, and hopefully they will just drop the issue unless they get more complaints, it's right next to the university and mostly 18 year old + kids in the store, so.....

I would hate to mod a game that works perfectly fine the way it is.

but if anyone in WA wants to trade for it,,, not with a super pac man... or what's a reasonable price $700?
