I put a new hard drive in this game within the past year. Now, it has started re-booting in the middle of a game. Before I go complaining to the guy where I bought the drive, I need to know if I'm correct in assuming that the drive is the problem here. I'm thinking yes. Anyone else? Thanks.

does it flat just stop and reboot or does it freeze first??

if it freezes, then reboots, suspect drive..

it it just flat stops and intantly reboots, id suspect power supply issues..

either way check your +5 and +12 as your drive needs to have a good 12... if either is low there ya go

is this a conversion or a dedicated?? iirc, i have a spare power supply fromn the one carnevil that i gutted.. so if you need lmk.. wont be cheap tho :D

It is a dedicated Carnevil. It goes to a blank screen and then immediately to the test mode. It most often happens when you finish a level. Instead of going to the next level, it goes to test. Occasionally, it will go to test in the middle of a level.

weired..

if it was always at the same spot id think drive...

im thinking power or board issue.. although i have been wrong before lol..

As this game is 1.5 hours away, I'm willing to buy an ATX power supply and take it with me when I go back to the location. (I can use a spare ATX supply, anyway, if the game doesn't need it.) Does anyone know if the ATX at Bob Roberts will work with this game? Again, since I can't check out the connectors, I'm depending on someone who may have this game in their collection. Thanks.

ok its not a standard atx but you might be able to make one work...

its a peter chou, looks like atx but i dont think it is.. is has the standard ac input connector but the output connection is a 9 pin "square" not the rectangular that most atxes have.. this supply also has a external 5 volt adjustment...

the model is up-150pst

willy, this one mught just work.. hard to tell but if the top one is 9 pin it should work for ya...

If I may ask.. why do you think it is a power issue? From what I read, it is a drive issue. I stated earlier in thread, do a file check in setup/test. I had HD in a pc that never had a prob. I pulled it and used it for Sportstation. Game would reboot here/there. Ended up there were bad spots that the file system uses but the PC did not use.

every game ive had with hds.. game or attract would freeze, stay there for awhile, then restart..

they way he was talking youd be playing abd boom it would reset...

Correct, it would depend on what file is in the bad spot on the drive. It could even be a problem with the drive spin-up where it doesn't kick in when it should. Myself, I would CF the game and go from there :)

These old HD's are near the end of their life. You just look at them wrong and they will flake out when they were new.

If Carnevil has same utils as Blitz and other games in that cat, use those util to test the drive thoroughly. I bought so many seattle/vegas boards where they were sold as dead/issues and 9/10 it was just bad drives.

He can always get out the MM and do voltage checks to test PS.

My Gauntlet DL was rebooting, checked the voltages and the 5v was low, bumped it up a little, the power supply in mine had a adjustment pot on it, and it works fine now.
If the hard drive is failing, it will usally happen at the same point and you may hear pinging or a lot of hard drive chatter.
Hope this helps.
