problem with game guns not calibrating correctly. the game says to aim at the "X" in the top left corner. it will not calibrate at the "X". it will calibrate some were else. same with the other gun. the gun test shows intermittent marks in different places on the screen. I adjusted the contrast to max, bright to max adjusted colors, both directions on the pots turned up the screen on the flyback, nothing works. i connected the crt tester (sencore cr7000) to the crt set up all settings voltage tube type, ect. tested the cutoff and it fluctuates will not stay in cutoff. it will stay for 2 seconds then looses cutoff. any all the guns will do this randomly.

any help would be appreciated

thanks

I would check your daughter card that's bolted to the top left of your board and make sure that it's fully seated against all of the connectors if it's loose or bolted down hard on one side than the other you'll get an error calibration issues

What is the 5v voltage at on the game PCB and at the guns?

CarnEvil guns like 5.1v to work well. Sometimes 5.15v. (Yeah, this game likes it warm to pushing hot.)

The PCB itself (video/sound/etc) will work with a much cooler 5v. So, everything else working, but the guns not could still be too low of 5v.

i checked the mobo voltage. 5.26v. the guns are running at 4.66v

That is a problem.

What is the voltage at the power supply?

You can try bypassing the motherboard's 5v feed to the guns and connect it directly to the power supply. Turn the 5v down before you do this.

What power supply are you using?

Is the motherboard's edge connector dirty? You might try cleaning it with a pencil eraser.

Check the actual plug that you plug into an outlet and make sure it has a ground on it. And make sure the outlet is grounded. These like Games need a ground.

I cleaned the edge (jamma) connector with an eraser and a damp damp q-tip. it was very dirty. The power supply is a dual 9-pin peter chou wattage not determened. i changed the power supply to a single 9-pin suzo-happ, the fan was froze. set the power supply at 5.09v it was at 5.26. guns are at 4.80 better but not at 5.1. the fire but will not calabrate correctly. the right gun will not fire upper left corner of crt but the left one works but won't calibrate correctly. fires just off to the left of the muzzle. opposite for the right gun. To calibrate the guns i have to aim at the "X" at the top left corner then the bottom right. the left gun does great. but off. the right will not work on the left top but will work in the any where else. that is a new gun too. by-passing im not sure where to connect it to.

I have confirmed that there is a ground on the line plug, in the game (visual and using ohm meter) and at the power outlet ( hot to ground AC tester.)

4.8v is still too low.

Please double check all of the 5v wiring and ground wiring to the guns to make sure it doesn't have any breaks or shorts.

What is the 5v voltage at the headers on the gun I/O pcb?

For bypassing, you will want to run an extra 5v & ground wire from the power supply directly to the guns.

Cut the wire or pop the 5pos 5v/ground pins out at the gun I/O board. Use leads with alligator clips to "jumper" from the power supply to the pins. You'll need something to alligator clip to on the power supply side. I would only do one gun for the initial test.

Long Term No Cut bypass:
If you don't want to cut anything in the harness, you would need 9pos male and female connectors, 4x 5pos moles .100 headers, 1 Z connector (in-line splice connector) for .100 and pin/contacts to match for the above.

The 9pos header everything would wire straight from the male to the female except you need one extra 5v wire lead and one extra ground wire lead. (You could also do 2 wires of each.) Make sure these two (or 4) extra red/black wires are LONG to reach from the power supply to the gun I/O pcb.

The 5pos headers same deal, Blue/White/Green (or brown) wires as the gun I/O header wire through. The 5v and ground leads from the power go to the gun side. The Gun I/O side for 5v/ground is left empty. Z/Inline splice connector here to connect to the gun headers of the harness.

One more thing to consider is if the power supply is original, even if it's putting out proper voltage, it's pretty much worn out at this point. Most of the 90's games I've picked up including Carnevil and several driving games were basically limping along with goofy issues, most were remedied by installing new power supplies. Most of these 90's games require 16 amp power supply's and these 20 year old one can still produce the proper voltage buy aren't keeping up with the amperage demands.
