Hello, I'm pretty new to the hobby, I'm wondering if someone could help advise me on a trade.
I own a functional F14 pinball (need cosmetic touch ups,but plays) and am pondering trading it for a Carnevil machine (dedicated,25" monitor, functional, few scratches here and there).
I really don't know the value of either, but often see pinball machines sell for much higher than video games. At the same time, I believe Carnevil is a expensive, computer type pcb with hard drive, surely more valuable than any regular ol' jamma cabinet.
Another consideration is the care and maintenance of these machines. Are pins much more problem prone/maintenance Dependant than a vid of this sort. I really haven't a clue.
I should add that I have very little experience in the repair department of either vid or pin machines, but am determined to learn.
Any advice, opinions greatly appreciated.
Thank you

F14 is worth about $1000 is Carnevil worth that? I don't know, never looked. I would say no, but I am a pinhead

Several years ago, I sold my restored F-14 for $1550. I had touched up the playfield, clearcoated it, cabinet touch ups, NOS score plexi, tumbled every piece of metal, new bulbs, rubber, flipper rebuild kits, painted inside of cabinet, the whole works.

Well, the big thing is if the trade is worth it to YOU. I like F-14 Tomcat. It's quirky in my opinion, and brutally fast if working properly.

I honestly have NO idea what a Carnevil is worth, but it is a nice looking machine if in good condition.

That said, I have more pinballs than video games. I rarely have issues with either, and in my opinion, I play them fairly often. You don't need to worry as much in a home enviorment (for both vids and pins) but things can, and do, break down on both. You can never avoid that.

In looking on E-Bay, which I know is not the best place for comparison, Carnevil is anywhere from $600-$1600. I can tell you that an F-14 that needs some work would probably fetch $700 - $900 or so (just a guess), so it seems like they may be pretty even if the Video game is decent and working well.

Good luck whatever you decide. Hope others can chime in for you as well.

Well, I own a CarnEvil that I paid 1200.00 for about 7-8 years ago. Nowadays, I think they go for about 400.00 or so. Needless to say, I'm keeping mine as I'll never get the $$ back out of it. I agree with ^^ about it having no replay value. It's a cool game for a few months, but it drops off quickly. As far as reliability, CarnEvil is bulletproof. Of course the monitor should be crisp & bright as this affects the guns' ability to "see" where they shoot. Its also a big hit at parties, but like I said, you'll tire quickly.

around here id cay carnevil still has a 500-700 value.... Personally, i owned a carnevil and gameplay was fun but did get stale after awhile. Not good at all if you have little kids, it will give them nightmares for sure.

Honestly if i was you, i think id keep the pin unless the dude wanted to throw another game or some money your way.

bad to really bad trade. Your f14 probably needs alot of work to be really nice. You need to learn to clean it and probably replace the balls asap.

Still a working average f-14 is worth about 2x a carnevil.

Carneivl was a dedcated cab and also a kit. The dedicated cab look pretty cool and should have 2 very expensive shotguns(I think $200 a pop). When they break, they were often replaced with cheaper happ handguns.

carneivl is hdd based, but its jamma. It runs on a seattle board not a pc.
