I cant find the black cardboard monitor surround for the Crystal Castles I have so I'm considering making one. Has anyone made one of these.

There is a PDF file that describes how to roll your own. But my Google-fu is too weak to find the link (someone had to post it for me).

If you want to give me a week or so, I can draw it up in CAD and get the measurements sorted out. The geometry of it is pretty simple. I need to make one for my own Crystal Castles project.

If its not too much trouble that would be great. I don't have one to use as a template so that would be helpful.

Dat's awesome !! All mine are flat crap that the previous owners made. Never occured that they were three dimensional. Now a NEW project, just what I needed !

Cardboard bezels, one of the main reasons I dislike most Atari cabinet.

Wow, I feel exactly the opposite. The black cardboard bezels are very easy and cheap to reproduce. When you have a plastic bezel/shroud and that's cracked, broken or missing, then what do you do?

What's the thickness of cardboard to use? Where to get it? Supplier?

I made a copy of the 720 one for someone on here. I used a much heavier than poster board/matte board type material that actually has a satin sheen to it, rather than flat. It turned out nice. Not quick and easy to do though. Scoring the bends with a razor takes some patience and a long metal ruler.

I mean that Atari didn't have any artwork around their monitors, just an ugly black bezel. That is fine on later cabinets with 25" monitors, but on a 19" you really should have some artwork. Just look at how Midway handled the Namco games they licensed versus how Atari did. I think that Dig Dug and Pole Position are the only games that had artwork.

I just got done restoring my Xevious bezel which has really nice artwork.

A lot of Atari titles have smoked or tinted glass anyways.

And besides many Atari titles have full front and side art so the bezel is a very minor gripe.

And don't forget that the black ones had a little shine to them. I remember painting one that I made with a spray can so it would look closer to the original. I think it came out OK, it was a long time ago!
