So I've had this board in my multi Jamma rig for several years. The other day, my son told me he couldn't punch/fire when playing first player. So I went through my wiring and realized there were a couple wires fucked up so I fixed them. Now, all the other boards work correctly except this one. I can get all four directions and jump to work, but just not the action button. The two player controls work fine, and the one player controls are wired correctly, I just can't get the action button to do anything.

Looks like the help/technical forum is getting little to no traffic lately. I used to think JAMMA/ JAMMA era boards were pretty much invincible, but now I'm having multiple boards with issues. So far I can't go right on a kung fu master, action button is not working on my Captain America and I've got graphics glitches on my Rush n attack. At least I was able to play the heck out of my Altered Beast PCB over the weekend. Damn that game is still fun. AnyWho, looks like we're getting to 'that' point with late 80s/ Early 90s era boards now. Should probably start going through all my stored boards to see what all still works.

Not sure JAMMA era boards were ever invincible!

You need to verify there is +5V at where the button connects to the edge connector. If there is, touch a ground wire to it and see if the action works. If it does then the board is fine and it's still your wiring.

If there is 'nothing' at the edge connector, then look for damage at the black resistor pack that the edge connector pin will connect to (it's a pull up resistor, so should give out +5V).

If the edge connector is 'stuck low' - aka, pulled to ground, then either the resistor pack is damaged, or the custom chip that handles inputs is shorted low on that line. That would be bad and likely need a new custom chip*. Removing the resistor pack would be easiest way to confirm.

* Or if really hardcore, patching player 1 action to the unused input line next to it that probably still works, and patching the code to read that for action.

Yeah, I'll check all these things when I get a chance. The thing is it's been working fine in this machine for 15 years. One day my son just couldn't start a 1P game and couldn't use the action button once it auto started as Vision. I figured it was a wiring issue and when I finally got around to looking at it and saw the broken wires, I just fixed them, figuring that was it. This machine has a six in one Jamma switcher in it and the other games worked fine. I then cycled through the games and tried to play CA, and that's when I noticed the button still didn't work.
