I have a capcon vs snk arcade game that was working fine, then one day I turned it on and the game is working but the monitor is black. I can hear a clicking sound coming for the monitor, but can't see where it is coming from exactly. Any ideas where i should be looking? I checked a few caps that other sites said to and they test ok.

Thanks Chuck

what kind of monitor is it? go by what you find on the chassis, not on the back of the tube (the tube #'s are completely worthless)

if it's a Wells-Gardner D9200, get ready to duck around these parts LOL

It is a wells-gardner 25k2193?

ah, Wells U2000 I think. nowhere near as bad as the D9200 I mentioned lol.

I don't know about your ticking problem so much, but there's some things I can suggest trying, but you probably won't know how to do them yourself, yet.

may be overdue for a cap kit, this is always a good place to start.

I had a K7500 (remotely similar design to a U2000 I suppose...) that did the same thing, and re-capping it didn't fix the problem.

then you have to test what's called the B+, make sure it's within a safe operating range. if it's not, the monitor will go into an X-ray protection mode (aka Shutoff mode) where, as you could've guessed, the monitor shuts itself off to prevent any harmful effects to itself and you. :p

the horizontal output transistor (HOT) could be shorted as well, that will cause the ticking you hear.

another scenario is your flyback went bad.

I might be missing something else, but I just woke up, and that's pretty deep monitor diagnosis stuff for me. lol

I hear the B+ adjustment pot and the X-ray protection pot on the chassis are prone to going bad too from the epoxy that Wells-Gardner used to seal them... I guess it eats them up. I inevitably wound up replacing my B+ pot on the K7500 I worked on too, cause I wasn't able to adjust it at all.

hopefully someone else will chime in, maybe explain these things in greater detail, cause I've never done any of those on the kind of monitor you have.

good luck

I think I might have found the problem, There is a cracked resistor right next to the B+. i am going to try that and see if that solves the problem. Thanks for the insight on where to look. Was going to take the epoxy off the B+ when I seen the resistor.
