Spent ages on that game , has to be one of the best shoot em up`s ever made , it gets so intense , it`s insane , has anyone ever beat this game on ONE CREDIT ? i would highly doubt it . I spent hours on it one night , to get to the end , i just kept hitting continue , i just couldnt beat the last 3 guys , but just seen a guy on youtube do it , type in Gunsmoke stage 10 ...even though im pretty good at it , i couldnt possibly beat this game on 1 credit , a classic example of sounds , and action , this game ranks highly with me !!

I can get through the first three boards without dying. After that, it'a hit or miss, the game is very hard. Even sometimes the Ninja Darts guy (boss at the end of level 3) trips me up. I can, almost every time, get to him without dying once, and about half the time I can beat him.

It's a fantastic game though, definitely an underrated classic. Of course, this was a kit game - no dedicated cabinet exists. But, still, it's a great game, and shouldn't be overlooked. It's on the 60 in 1, but it doesn't play quite right, not compared to the original. There's an upright at a local video game store, I play it every chance I get.

You're right. Which is why I made my own "dedicated" cabinet. This game rocks! I spent many a quarter on this game.

Happy to partake in the gun.smoke love fest myself. It is definitely one of the most intense shmups out there. You really earn your playing time. Reminds me of Robotrons later levels. There are two versions, one has a harder level appear earlier.

I have a pcb and had I the room, this is one of those conversion kits I'd dedicate a cab to.

I love Gunsmoke as well. Both the arcade and NES versions. And I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in those youtube videos as many people edit the hell out of them.

Leaderboard at Twin Galaxies:

2 --- 2,134,300 -- Dwayne Richard --- Dec 31 2002 ---- Referee
3 --- 1,690,000 -- Kevin Melton ------ Jun 27 1987 ---- Referee
4 --- 1,465,250 -- Jaime Guzman ---- -Nov 04 1986 ---- Referee
5 --- 1,348,850 -- Richie Woodward -- Jun 28 1986 ---- Referee

7 --- 143,350 ---- Jason Wilson ------ Jul 03 2002 ----- Referee
8 --- 123,400 ---- Robert T Mruczek -- Nov 19 2005 --- Referee

Those are all one credit games, as continues are not allowed. I'd have to imagine that at least the top two scores are completions. Dwayne Richard is one of the most talented arcade gamers out there.

I'll join in on the love. If I had infinite room I'd consider creating a dedicated as well. It's a shmup that is tough as fucking nails, but totally unique.

Absolutely crazy!

Believe it or not, I had never even seen this game before looking at this thread! After watching a YouTube video of the first level, it struck me as the ancestor to the Cave shooter "Guwange". If you don't know what I am talking about, do a search for it. The similarities are noticeable.

Preston- nice job on the custom cabinet. Since "Radiant Silvergun" was never released here in the US, I took a "Big Blue" Qsound dynamo cabinet that I bought at the auction last year in Atlanta and created my own with custom artwork as well. If you do a search, I am sure you can find it...

PS: I talked to Homer today, and "my" LE is scheduled to ship out on Monday. Now all I have to do is hope that we get a buyer on the rental house we just spent the last two months and over $20,000 updating and re-modeling. I have been working until at least 11PM every night for the last three weeks straight, and it is FINALLY over! We put the "For Sale" sign in the yard Friday morning...

I was waiting for someone to refer to the Twin Galaxies' list.

Some months ago I asked Dwayne when he was going to take back his high score, but he mentioned something about retiring from video games. :(

Beautiful game, love that custom side art. Marshal Dillon would enjoy taking down some bad guys on that machine. Very intense game, but yes this game can be beat on one credit. Extremely difficult to do, but fun as hell trying.

Yeah, G.S. is way cool.

The controls are simple, the game is hard, and the theme fun is very high--even after $5.00.

IMHO, CAPCOM did a good job on this one.

Kudos to the creative team at CAPCOM for making G.S.

:)

Have a look at Capcom Commando , its music is almost identical , it`s also an ariel view of basically the same game , but an army theme ,, doesnt seem to have the power ups and class as GS , it might of even been before GS , to me GS is it , i dont like the looks of Commando [ havent played it though ] , on that you tube stage 10 post , the guy hides down the RHS of the screen , the big shotgun blasts dont make it there , that must be a hack , capcom dont allow hiding space on this game , something will sniff you out and play hide the pork sword with you .

What a lovely cabinet !! , awsome job there !! the cab looks WIder than usual , is it just the angle ? or is there a buiilt in fridge in there ? HAha , you will need it playing this game . [ damm , im thirsty as hell now , better get a coldy ].

i love gunsmoke, I play it a lot on the nes and i am picking up a 60in1 very shortly so can not wait to have it in a cab at least playable

I`ll add my 2 cents worth to this list , it`s FU$$## insane !! < FOR REAL , 2 Mc Million
{ Mcdonalds joke ] , Holly Eprom undies batman !!!! , i tell ya , there`s great players , then theres MEGA PLAYERS , these players still live with their folks at 45 or so , go to the whores for tube relief , and have $250,000 in the bank ,,, i need painkillers now , my head is swelling !! ,,, 2 Mc million ? << HAHAha
