So for those of you that have done this, what is the best method? I have one that I think is still good, will test tonight. If it is still good I'd like to make sure it is good for a long time to come.

But isn't there a time limit? After you remove the battery you have 15 mins to reinstall the new battery before you kill the board.

Why don't you just have the board phoenixed?

What is Phoenixed? Sorry, but I am new to these Capcom boards.

My understanding is it's a process that bypasses the suicide battery so that you never have to worry about it again. I could be wrong and I'm sure someone on the boards would have better detailed info. I vaguely research it a year ago so I'm not completely sure.

You can find the batteries way cheaper online. Also, be aware that if you phoenix certain games, some things will be lost. For ex. Evil Ryu in SFA2 is not selectable if the game is phoenixed. On the other hand, if you do phoenix a game, you can select multiple regions for most games, so if you have a blue marvel superheroes, you can change the region to JPN and access Thanos, Dr.Doom, and Anita from darkstalkers.

It's really personal preference, and as for the time limit issue, It should take you all of 30 seconds to swap the battery out, so it should be a non issue at worst.

Just take apart the casing, desolder the old battery, resolder the new one in, and Viola!!
your good for another 5 years. at least.

IMO the game should be phoenixed only if the game has died, if it's still running make every attempt to keep it original.

Listen to these guys....Swapping out the battery is VERY simple (I replace the battery on my MSHvsSF) Make sure you have a torx security bit (i forgot which size you need) to remove the case, and make sue you install the battery WITH CORRECT polarity. I'll PM you a site that sells the batteries for 6 bucks...

Thanks about the site, but I am about the here and now. :D

You'll need one in a few years... :p

I don't recall any discussion of the Phoenix roms being inappropriate for the site, they exist to keep old hardware running, so I see no issue there. If we were going to be that anal about it, 60-in-1 would be verboten, those are actually pirate whereas the Phoenix roms were created to keep real boards running ;)

I don't own any CPS2 boards anymore, but when I did, I'd take a note on the case with the date of when I last changed the battery. It helps 3 years down the line when you're wondering when you changed it, or if you sell the board off it lets the new owner know when it was last taken care of.

jammaboards.com sells the batteries(currently out of stock) and will service the boards for the battery change as well if you want to go that route....

i have done several of my games and have most of the files
(actually have a dead mv vs cap on the way that im going to pheonix as soon as it arives lol)

as far as bat replacment its easy i just did 11 boards for a coustmer and they went off super easy

he brought me the bats
2 things to consider if buying a bat from crap shack

a. does it have leads already on the bat
(if not its a bitch to solder leads to a bat without damaging a bat i learned this the hard way while making my own bat packs for my rc cars)

b. is the bat a high wuality bat that will last
(my coustmer orderd his bats from digikey and they are direct replacments with leads)

Razoola Is the ONLY guy that should be doing it, as he was the one that created the phoenix fix.

i usnderstand wanting to support the person that did the work to decyript the files but
1.
he is overseas and is 1 man im not about to ship my chips for a huge shipping cost overseas and then wit for a month to get them back

2.
he has posted the steps on his site on how to create your own chips from the original files so i see no problem in charging a small fee to cover time and chip cost to preform the same service he is doing

now if someone is going around and charging 100$ to pheoniex a cps2 board the by all means that person need to donate a portion of hes "proffit" to raz for his hard work

i have been doing it for locals for 15$ wich covers the 20 mins it takes me to rip the chips and the 1-5$ for having to use my own chips since half the time the crap chips capcom used either wont erase or once are erased they wont program
