So I am about to cap my 25K7191 monitor as it has an issue where the image is garbled/smushed to the top of the screen. I inspected the chasis to for blown caps but didn't see any. I did notice this rather large capacitor on the chasis that isn't a normal cap included in a cap kit not does it have a silver top like regular ones. It is pretty much a solid plastic capacitor and its large and fat. I did notice the plastic on top seems to be a little bulgey but sort of not. Not sure what these are supposed to look like so I thought I would post a picture of the capacitor here. Do you think this needs to be replaced? If so I can find a replacement with the correct voltage and uf ratings however its not nearly as wide and its taller/thinner.

Most of the time the filter cap you are talking about is good. But I would
Replace it if you think its going bad. The smaller, taller replacement should fit since there is an alternate set of holes to mount your cap on.

That's tha main filter cap and rarely gives trouble. Bulging plastic top is pretty normal.

Rarely in electronics do you get to see "blown" parts - it does happen when you let the smoke out however and sometimes things become visable. Electronic components in the main fail without any visable evidence.

Ensure you fit the new caps the correct way around or you may get to see 'the smoke' that runs electronic things as it escapes.

Thanks for the info guys, I will leave it as is for now, and see how it does with a regular cap kit.

i would replace it as a precaution. because it is bulging a little and it should not. it should be flat across the top.

i replace it on every K7000 chassis i repair.
and as a result i never have problems.

it is the first cap in your power supply so why not have it up to par with the rest of the caps. poor regulation = problems with the rest of the chassis.

if you want one i stock them.

Peace
