im working on my jungle lord recaping it.since i have sounds but no speech.i thought this was a good place to start since voltages are good and i reseated the chips. in the book C27 calls for a Electrolytic 12,000uF, 25 Volt Capacitor same in my alien poker book.but this is cap that is on both boards 4700 uf 6v .is this a manual error because alien poker works fine.THANKS

Either cap will work.

Some were made with 12000uF caps (overkill for this board). Most seem to have been made with 4700uF, 16V (not 6V) caps. You should be able to get by with the 4700uF caps just fine.

That cap is a filter cap in the power supply so the value is not going to be as critical as caps in the sound path. If I were you I would just order a cap kit and install whatever came with it. Otherwise I would probably use something in the 5000-10000uf range at 25V (12K should be fine). I would take a good look at BR1 as well. A huge new cap is going to put some strain on that sucker.

That said... I'm not so sure that replacing caps will fix your speech problem. If I had to guess I would say it likely won't. That cap specifically will have no effect on that.

EDIT: Beat me to it :)

I also have no speech on my jungle lord.I'll be watching this post for ideas. My speech was choppy almost like stuttering.I pulled the board and re-flowed some solder joints,re-seated all socketed chips and of course flipped the dip switches with some cleaner and spun the pot with some cleaner. The top switch has a weird feel to it.So i'm starting with simple, pull boards and check that dip switches are functioning correctly,as i think the top one turns speech on and off.And i'll also check the balancing pot,not sure what it balances, but i'm guessing speech vs sound fx volume.
Good luck on fixing your game.

I don't know if this is a coincidence.....Williams used that same sound board in their video games. Every video game, that I've bothered to notice, has had a 4700uf cap in that position. All the pinballs have had a 12K cap. And I agree with Lindsey....that cap probably won't fix your speech.

Wrongdon.........Come and get your manual from me. It explains the sound board test procedures, sound dip switches, and some testing procedures. I am impressed on how far along you have come on this project. I can't wait until it is finished. Maybe I will buy it back from you! Na, couldn't afford what you would charge me.
