I ordered a cap kit and all the caps matched up with my board except for two. The original cap located at C50 is 680uf @35v, and the replacement was 1000uf @35v... is that ok? Another original cap called for 22uf @50v and the replacement was 22uf @160v...Those are the only two I can remember that were kind of iffy....I'm going to fire it up soon, just wanted to run it by yall first.

You can always go "up" in voltage. So, 22uf160V is totally acceptable in place of 22uf50V.....just never go down in voltage.

As for the other cap...my notes show a 680uf high temp. cap. Don't know what to tell you...

A lot of people that put together "cap kits" seem to "round up" the oddball size caps...like your example.....the next size up from 680uf is 1000uf. A couple Wells-Gardner monitors use a 1500uf cap....it always gets substituted for a 2200uf. A lot of the old black & white monitors use a 150uf....it's always substituted for a 220uf. A lot of these "oddball" size caps are still available. I think the people making these cap kits just don't take the time to source them.

I've gotten 680uf caps from Mouser in the past (as I do the 1500uf and the 150uf).

Re:

Thanks for the reply, I think the temp is the same on both the 680 and the 1000 uf.

I recently did a SAMPO rebuild that had a 100u160v cap where the schematic showed a 330u160v cap, probably because the 330u160v cap has to be ordered. The monitor worked just fine with the other value.

You can try it with the caps you received. Just be watching when you power it up. If something pops or smokes, shut it off quick. If you have keystoning or size issues that can't be adjusted in the normal ways, you may need to go back to that old cap....

Re:

Some good news and some bad news... The cap kit works fine, nobody died..., but now I suspect my flyback is making some kind of crackling noise every few seconds and then it starts doing it more frequently. It sounds like a taser gun or stun gun, just not a continuous crackle.
