I reversed C42 on a K7000 cap kit.

I got confused when i took out the Flyback to get to it and swap in the other flyback and ended up reversing that cap when I fired it up.

It then showed a picture for a sec before blowing. Any ideas on where I should be looking for shorted resistors or what else may have blown from reversing that cap.

I'm so pissed at myself for working so late at night when I'm already tired!

Ken, Mod???? help please
Thanks for any help

What did you blow? Just that cap? It's possible that the only problem is that cap. Put a new one in (properly) and see what happens...

yeah it was so late and I was done making more stupid mistakes so I called it quits and wanted to check w/ the pros.

I reversed that same cap C42 back and it was still dead/no pic

sometimes I may know enough just to be dangerous. I'll put in the old cap for that location and see if it comes up.

The chassis did produce a decent picture before actually but the Hor width was shrunk and the coil looked nearly maxed out.

Yeah, if you just reversed the blown cap it won't do anything. If you power an electrolytic backwards it destroys it - breaking down the insulation between the plates, causing a short that then blows away. Once the cap blows and vents it's effectively an open. Putting it back in the right way should have the same effect as simply removing it.

You need a new cap :D

oops it was C40 instead, behind the flyback.

I replaced it w/ the one I took out and still no pic.
I'll start checking around now.

Thanks for the help guys.
Turns out that the Flyback I took from a donor chasis was also bad. I had swapped the original working one cause it was starting to come apart and had that big magnet looking part loose.

I swapped the flyback and had Vertical Colapse so i researched what section it was. Of course C40 happend to be in that section and since I had already swapped that I dug around more and pulled R91 since it was under the Flyback support metal shield. It looked fried so I swapped that from a used donor chassis and the monitor sprung to life.

I'm completely burnt for the night so I left one issue not addressed yet. There's an inch on both sides that I can't fill and the Horz Width Coil is maxed out. I may try to swap the coil out tomorrow and see how it may be fixed.

This restore project was one of the Firesale Thatguy/Gregtron machines. It a Naomi HS5 with CvSNK MF but I swapped it to MVC2 from a different machine that I got from them. It had water damage serious lock bars, a worn CPO, shot monitor, graffiti etc....

It's come a long way.

Oh man thanks. I read that page last year and I guess it just did not sink in and I was just thinking that the width coil just controlled the full range. I'll have tocheck the value for C38 and see about getting the cap kit to up the range.

Thanks again 4 adding more monitor repair info to my skills.
