Hi,

Are there any differences in these two caps besides the voltage? The black one, which is bulging and I suspect is back says "negative" near the rating. The blue one does not. Can I use the blue one to replace it?

Thanks.

from looking at the caps, the black dotted line would be your negative lead on the blue cap.

the writing can be anywhere on a cap label.

the voltage is higher and that is OK.

Thanks buffet. The only thing that worries me is that the "negative" label is not associated with one of the terminals, is perpendicular. Ill give it a try and see what goes down.

Thanks again.

take a better pic of the cap from all sides if you are not sure.

this way we all can see what you have.

installing it backwards with that big of a value cap will smoke the cap and probably other things

Ok, heres a few more photos. Hopefully this helps. I can definitely identify the negative lead on the blue cap as I have when doing cap kits. So, putting it in the board the right way will not be a problem. I guess Im still curious why the black cap says "negative" where the rating is? Is there such a thing as a negative cap?

Thanks!

The "negative" reading on the black cap, along with the cross hatched circle, is to tell you that when looking at the bottom of that cap the negative lead is the one with the crosshatched/dimpled circle. In your pic, the negative lead is on the left in pic 4. The negative lead also happens to be marked on the side of the cap.
